Nikon has released D850 firmware version C1.31

Primarily, this firmware update addresses:

• Added [Portrait impression balance] to the photo and movie shooting menus. For more information, see Supplementary Firmware Update Manual. To view NEF (RAW) pictures taken using firmware version 1.30 or later on a computer, you will need to update NX Studio to version 1.3.1 or later and Picture Control Utility 2 to version 2.4.14 or later.

• Fixed an issue that resulted in attempts to initiate [Lock mirror up for cleaning] in the [SETUP MENU] causing the camera to display the message “Disable [Network connection] in the Bluetooth menu” and lock the mirror in the down position, preventing it being raised for cleaning, when [Enable] was selected for either of the following [SETUP MENU] items:
- [Bluetooth] > [Network connection]
- [Airplane mode]

I just performed this update today. You must use a memory card which has been formatted in your camera. The instructions do not indicate whether you must perform a fresh format of the card, and therefore lose any stored images. I first backed up all images to an external drive, but left them in place in the default folder on the card. I placed the bin file in the root directory. Once I turned the camera on and went to 'Firmware Version' there was a prompt to update the firmware. Took perhaps five minutes. Afterwards, I noticed there was a 'Remove' option for the bin installation file but I opted to remove this file manually while the memory card was mounted to my laptop. I put the memory card back in the camera, confirmed the new version, and all my images are there as well. Piece of cake.

Anyway, whether or not you perform this update, congratulations on your very fine taste, for owning the best DSLR ever produced.

And no, I'm not going mirrorless. Too much glass to replace. The D850 is in all likelihood the last dedicated camera I'll ever buy.

I'm still occasionally shooting an old D70S. Don't use it enough to justify a new body, but that is an appealing option. Other than the cost of entry Eek

Same reasoning for me, but I am still shooting my D800. I wanted to move up to mirrorless Canon, but it’s way too much glass to justify replacing IMO.

Just to be safe, I always use an old empty card for my FW updates.

Format in camera, copy file, update, reformat, put “regular” card back in.

What part of "...Shall not be infringed" don't you understand???

We have a D800. I'll have to look to see if this is applicable. Out son has it at college for a photography class.

There appear to be no recent firmware updates for this camera.
