Very sorry to hear of his passing. Frown

I loved his commentaries on KCBS radio during my Silicon Valley commutes, back in the day. He was an absolute hoot to listen to, often about football but he would talk about almost anything that caught his fancy. Snickerdoodles, as I recall, got a lot of airtime around the holidays. Smile

RIP Mr. Madden.

Mr. Madden was very entertaining color commentator. I liked his Player of the Game award. RIP.

RIP, growing up in the NY/CT/NJ tri state area it was Madden and Summerall calling Giants games for years. So many memories.

Best was a snowy day at Shea stadium when Madden got into a snowball fight with some Jet's fans outside the open broadcast booth.

Just three days ago I watched the 90 minute special on John Madden. My favorite broadcaster of all time. I had no clue that he had passed till I saw this thread. I’ve missed him ever since he retired from broadcasting. RIP

I grew up a fan of the Oakland Raiders, partly because of Mr. Madden.

I was doing a job in Dublin California years ago and went into a Wendy's around 11AM to get a burger.

John Madden and Al Davis were in there eating and nobody else was in the place.

I was looking at the two of them and Madden looked over and made a sign with his hand asking if I wanted his autograph. I shook my head no and smiled and waved and he did the same.

Seemed like a very nice guy.

RIP

Even though he was a Raider, it's still sad to see him go.

RIP Mr. Madden.

Ahh yes, his chats with Al Hart, then later Steve Bunger... I remember when that show first started, everyone wondered why he wasn't on KNBR the big sports station or, KGO, one of two big news stations which also had teh 49ers rights. Instead, he went with the basic news/traffic/weather station KCBS which also had a handful of interesting programs on weekends such as Food (Narsai David), Travel, Financial Management, Gardening, Home Improvement... it was a short chat format where the host would ask him a question or, two and Madden would take it from there..on any topic.

There's a table in heaven reserved for major football figures from the Bay Area, Al Davis and Bill Walsh have a drink ready for John.

Infectious enthusiasm. He's been very missed ever since he left broadcasting. I think John Gruden is the only other broadcaster with anywhere close to his depth of knowledge and enthusiasm, and he got run out of the sport for basically being himself.

Sad state of affairs.

RIP Madden!

The announcers basically suck these days. I was watching the Texas Tech snoozer last night. Deuce Mcallister was the analyst. Monotone voice and unclear speech. Strahan has an infectious personality and he's funny. The Manning boys are ok but the brother deal gets old.

Always loved Madden.
I was too young to see him as a coach and when I was a kid did not watch much professional football because I only cared about the Bengals but of course they were always blacked out.
But Boy oh Boy did I love to play me some Madden video games!!

I learned an interesting fact that Madden once called a game for my tiny little Division III University.
When I was there Wittenberg was the winningest DIII team I think they have since dropped to number 2.
Word is the University has copies of the game on DVD so I am trying to figure out how to get a copy.

Don’t play video games much anymore but guess I will head out and buy Madden 22 tomorrow.
