From the OP:

due a major service : timing belt service, water pump, pulleys, leaking power steering pump, valve service, the alternators bad

TB Service on the J Series engines is a task. IIRC, it pays something like 4 hours to the tech & takes nearly that long to perform. Small working space.

thanks gentlemen -- we are getting the service done

despite this expense the vehicle runs well. it has been paid off for seven-ish years so we have gotten good service from it so far

appreciate the feedback

A13 service which is oil change, tire rotation, transmission fluid drain / refill
replace power steering pump (significant leak) -- aftermarket part
replace original alternator (electrics had 'flickered' during regular operation a few times) -- aftermarket part; battery tested good -- about 2 years old
valve adjustment service -- never had this done
timing belt replacement (complete - belt, water pump, tensioners, etc) OEM parts (we had this done at 85k miles previously)

done at an Acura dealership

brakes / tires are good for another 30K. plugs / ignition coils were replaced about 30k miles ago in early 2019

They don't need it often. But don't go by lack of noise (clacking or tapping) as not needing it. Every one I have needed to do, the valves (invariably the exhaust) were too tight. This causes a loss of compression and rough running.

My 2006 MDX has about 270K on it. I need a new drivers seat (the frame is broken and not solidly fixed to the floor) but otherwise it keeps going. Did the big belt service for the second time a few K ago. Had the timing chain tensioner fail last year, wheel bearings or something last year; catalytic converters past couple years. Power steering pump leaks. I guess if something expensive goes again I’ll let her go. Great car.
