I’m starting to think it’s Steinhart’s fault for not including paperwork needed to clear customs.

Either way I’m shocked that the super clone watches/ high end fakes I’ve acquired out of curiosity have all sailed through customs problem free but they looked at this legit German made watch so closely. Big Grin I suppose I should have expected something so illogical to happen it is 2020 so anything is possible.

So whose fault is it that it's delayed? Shouldn't your thread title read "Yay! US CBP ruined my wife's mother's day present"?

But but, it's FedEx's fault.

I’ve had some Steinharts come through with no issue and others get held up for a few days. Drove me crazy too. I just had a Christopher Ward get held up last week.

BTW: Which Steiney’s did you get?

Not FedEx's fault, US Customs does that.
Most times I get stuff from the UK in 1-3 days. Just when I get used to that customs does the same thing asking all sorts of stupid questions and it's often 30 days or so.

Green Highlander,

I got her a white MOP Ocean One 39.

What Christopher Ward did you get? I love those old C60 Tridents with the wavy dial. I’ve been tempted by them but haven’t wanted to deal with shipping from the U.K.

Nice choice on the gift for her. It’s a really nice piece. I have really enjoyed my Ocean 1s. My favorite is my Ocean Vintage GMT.

The Christopher Ward I got is the C60 Trident Bronze Pro 600. I was able to get it during 50% off sale last month. I am really impressed and am looking forward to the next one.

I ordered a lightsaber coupler from the UK weeks ago. It's still sitting at customs because they don't believe it's a toy.

Green Highlander,

Oh man you got the bronze one.... it’s gorgeous!!!! Cool.

I’ve been soooooooooooooo tempted to scoop one of those up or an older C60. I really love the way that watch looks. Bronze is such a great case material. I have a micro brand from Baltimore MD with a bronze case and I love how it’s slowly forming a natural patina.

Have you posted any pics of your Christopher Ward in the HUGE watch thread we have going over in the gallery?

No doubt your wife appreciates your thoughtful gift, having both high technical and emotional value, even though delayed. If I may be so bold, put this text in the card that accompanies the gift-wrapped shipment. "Time can be measured, but with you, time stands still. Every time I am with you, my heart beats faster but my watch stops. All my love, ..."

It is somewhat ironic that a timepiece is stuck in time. Cue the Huey Lewis music.

I gotta give Steinhart credit. They responded QUICK to my email and have apparently resolved the issue with US Customs.

I suppose it was a good thing I also bought my wife some fancy shoes and planned a nice meal for Mother’s Day. I might just give her the watch as a surprise birthday present since that’s not too far away. Hmmm Big Grin

Wow!! Gorgeous watch.

My company ships stuff to Europe all the time w Fedex and whenever something goes Tango Uniform, Fedex ALWAYS blames customs, and much of the time it is. A few weeks back we lost (we ship perishable biological materials)an $11,000 order as customs in France took four days to clear it, didn't refrigerate it and the dry ice evaporated. But the douchebags at Fedex never sent us a delay notice.

We have learned something from this though: bigger boxes, more dry ice, and sign up for priority notification service from Fedex (as with all things Fedex, this last item had its own unique and unbelievable set of challenges).

Oh, and if you ship anything, the insurance is BS...Fedex has NEVER paid a claim we filed with them (its never "their" fault). Its really only useful if they completely lose the package never to be seen again.

I too love a bronze watch. I have had a Steinhart Ocean 1 Bronze since 2017 but always admired the CW. I couldn’t pass up the deal on last month’s clearance sale. It is really amazing seeing them side by side. The Steinhart has much more of a brass hue while the CW is far more copper. I will post comparison pics in the watch thread soon.

If you are thinking of getting a CW Bronze, be aware that they are discontinued. I would not be surprised to see some show up in their July sale though. There will likely be some if the older Tridents as well since based on what came up last month.

Anything international, if it hits a customs snag, it gets a long delay unless you have a customs broker.

The people at FrdEx don’t really have the knowledge to give you much help; they just know how to fill out the forms. And if they don’t know what the required information is, they can’t or won’t help you figure out what the correct value to enter.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." I ordered another Steinhart 22mm adjustable mesh bracelet and a rubber dive band for my wife’s Steinhart. Now that I am not on any kind of time schedule the bands shipped from Germany Monday and arrived on my doorstep just a few minutes ago. Big Grin Back to blazing fast shipping it seems.

I can’t wait until we get these things in some salt water. Cool

Has anyone had something like this happen? How did you get it resolved quickly? Why the hell did I pay so much for 2 day shipping only for it to sit for THREE days in their shipping facility over stupid customs BS!?

I am so mad at Fed Ex.

FedEx has no control over customs. Sometimes the .gov strikes and sometimes it doesn't. I had the same thing with a German watch I bought last year. My seller (Laco) was very efficient and gave the needed information to customs promptly, but it still caused an extra delay of three or four days and I owed a duty. A watch from France and one from Japan have sailed through customs with no duty imposed, but there is always a three or four day delay. I've had items sit in customs in New York for a week, even when no duty is required. And explain to me why a package from Australia ends up in New York in customs? Not LA? Not San Francisco?

This is our fine federal government, not FedEx. My guess is that they look closely at some random selection of packages. The watch of mine that got stopped was less expensive than the Japanese watch that came straight through. If you look at the schedule of duties, there is a duty on watches, so you should expect to pay a duty on an import, and consider yourself lucky if you don't.

Those pearl faces are cool. Do they make it in a men's size?

jhe888,

They might have made other versions in the past but as far as I know this is the only 42mm MOP dial they make right now. It’s quite tempting, especially with the DLC coating. It’s on preorder currently.
