Peace through superior firepower |
From the early 1980s. Now, one way to took at these poor quality SLP VHS recordings would be to say "that's horrible." Another way to look at it is "we're lucky to have them at all." Ted talks politics and guns with Letterman, but the remarkable thing is that in both of these clips, Ted plays with the band while seated in the guest chair. I don't recall ever seeing an artist do such a thing before, and it's neat. You can catch Dave's reactions. He's loving it. Ted's large and in charge. Unfortunately, the uploader of these vids has disabled viewing on other sites. You'll have to watch these clips on youtube, not here. Dig it Clip 1 Towards the end of this clip, Nugent starts out with a riff on Stranglehold, then improvises with the band. These two clips are cool artifacts of a time long gone. Clip 2

Nugent enjoys intelligent conversation. Never about him or a celebrity who thinks everyone hangs on his words (like some we know), it's his opinion, and if you want to engage in repertoire, or witty banter, he obliges. He sure has Dave leaning forward and engaging. And like H&K-Guy wrote, indeed, the conversation is still very much in the fore of today's agendas. Thanks for sharing! I used to watch the Letterman show in those days... Good stuff. "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor

That clip was so old Ted nearly used Chicago (before mentioning Des Moines) as a better example of low crime in pro-gun statistics . ------------------ The plural of anecdote is not data. -Frank Kotsonis

I, too, watched Dave more in this era but missed this appearance by TN - thanks for sharing this! "The sea was angry that day, my friends - like an old man trying to send back soup in a deli." - George Costanza

The performance of Nugent is so good you don't even notice the quality of the video. This is classic stuff from the motor city madman, thanks for posting. _______________________________________ NRA Life Member Member Isaac Walton League I wouldn't let anyone do to me what I've done to myself

Those were the golden days of Letterman! I used to love his show back then when he was more of a regular guy and not some bitter, leftist partisan commentator. Ted is an entertaining guy. Intelligent and always quick on his feet and with his words. He came to a rally for our county (Weld county in Colorado) sheriff and to support gun rights last summer and had a jam session. Impressive. Stand up guy who's not afraid to get involved and put his money where his mouth is.
