I have never known a SF guy to ever bring it up, they are usually very low key about it. Let alone wear parts of their uniform in public.

ZSMICHAELRepresenting yourself as a Clinical Psychologist without credentials is against the law. There are penalties etc. Put in an email to the Michigan Psychology Licensing Board. They will be interested.

striker1He’s a phony. He may be trying to cozy up and run a hustle on the church (needing financial help, etc.)
Don’t allow him to join the membership.
He may also be a danger. Be careful. I’d recommend that perhaps your deacon or elder committee simply confront him, tell him he’s misrepresented himself, and he’s no longer welcome.

kimber1911Unless running for political office or out there advocating in the public like Nathan Phillips, why worry about it.
Let him be, help if he needs help, he is in Church after all.
Church is not for the perfect, it is for those that realize they are imperfect.

This. Let Church officials know what you know - they may already - and let the Church deal with it. He could be a Vet, in need of mental health care, or just a guy off the street. He could also be not harmless - you already know he's not who he says he is.

A lot of truth there. Good post.

Bob at the BeachI would not think he’s a green beret. He’s in church, maybe he needs help? That is to say real help. If he is making up stories, maybe he has issues.

I wouldn't do anything. Anyone with half a sense already knows. And if he has come to your church, he is there for a reason. If you're a Christian, then treat him kindly. There's no reason to chase him out of your church. He obviously needs it, and any Christian that is in it.

Sometimes, helping people means helping them not to con other people. I don't care about the stories; I care about what possible con he might be setting people up for such as needing money, etc. I don't mind giving money but I don't like getting conned.
"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

My Assistant Scoutmaster was Special Forces Demolition during the Vietnam war. Never once did he brag, and he never wore his uniform to Church, ever. Follow your instincts. If he is a member, chances are he's done this in another Church unit before, and someone else knows about him already.

trapper189A nice white elderly couple sits behind us in church, Janet and Samuel L. Jackson. True story.

I had a gym teacher who was SF in Vietnam. When I found out and asked him the only thing he ever said about it was 'yes I was'.
I would leave well enough alone unless he starts to try and become involved in financial matters. Just for shits and giggles you could ask him his ODA number or the color of the boat house at Bragg.

RHINOWSOI'm a firm believer that people who wear the "Hats" all the time are at best 50/50 odd of being legit or a lying scumbag. I'm not talking about dragging something out for Vets day or some such thing, I'm talking about the guys who have those hats on 24/7/365.
Now if they wear the hat and talk about it non-stop and you aren't former military, those odds shoot WAAAAAAY up, I'd say into the high 90% they are full of shit.
Real vets rarely talk to non-vets about stuff, other than "yeah I was in the <insert service>, I was stationed here" or other very basic / vanilla stuff.
I know guys who will talk to me freely about stuff, but only because I'm a vet and have known them for many years - ie, I'm trusted and I tell them things that I wouldn't tell anyone but another trusted vets or guys I served with.
