Wow, man, you've got way more talent than me! Cool

I picked up a cheap bass a while back, thinking I'd learn to play it. What I learned is that 1) I can't teach myself to play it, and 2) it looks cool sitting in my den anyway. Big Grin

Thanks!

Funny you should say that because I'm starting to learn the bass too and finding it difficult. But I really don't spend enough time with it.

Sounds good. I enjoy playing finger style and Never Going Back Again and Landslide are two of my favorites to play.

Well done, 6guns!

I tried to learn to play guitar in my youth. The best I ever got was as a strummer, never good at picking.

Thank you for sharing your talent with us!

Very nice my friend. I've poured myself back into guitar after decades of scarcely touching one. It's been very gratifying (and stupid expensive since I've caught the gear bug of course).

I had learned Landslide at one time, but couldn't sing in the right range. Using a capo made it sound weird, so I never pursued it anymore. It was fun to play though.

Thank you, TD! I do like finger style. It makes the song sound bigger...or more complicated than it is, though it doesn't give the volume a pick strum does. Of course I strum plenty of songs too.

r0gue, I remember your thread(s) about guitar and gear. I hardly ever pick up my electric guitars. I just don't play the kinds of songs for electric. But I have plenty of them. Wink I get the expensive part of all this. Being a lefty, guitars have been hard to come by, so when I saw lefties pop up for sale, I did a lot of buying! Guitars, guns, watches....ugh! Big Grin

I appreciate that, Steve! And I really appreciate your recent trip to south FL and your further excursions. I have to put that on my list!

Thanks Matt. You can do it. Standard Travis picking style. Easier than it looks.

Started practicing tonight. Any tips for doing it on a 12 string?

I can't say I do as I don't own a 12 string. Given the string spacing and twice the strings, I'd suggest keeping your fingernails short so your nails won't get caught on the strings. Besides that...buy a six string? Wink

Since your top strings are your actual notes and the bottom strings are an octave up (except for your B and e strings where they are both the same), use your thumb for the EADG strings and finger(s) for the other two (since both strings are tuned the same, it doesn't matter which one you hit so you can come up from the bottom). It's harder than on a six string if only because there ain't a whole lot of room between strings to fit your thumb. You might look at picking up a thumb pick.

Spoken like an expert...which I am, most certainly, not. YMMV.
