How long have any of you guys waited between the time you ordered a Colt Letter for various Colt guns (snakes for example), and when you finally received it ?

Those guys are telling me up to a year. So I'm thinking, wth are you guys doing up there. Are you that unorganized or low key ? I guess maybe it's not really a profit center per se, since I THINK that operation separated from Colt Manufacturing some time ago.

What am I missing here ?

A year? Be thankful. Try SIG. It's an eternity.

I recently (last month) requested one.
The web site said 4 to 5 months. $75.00 and they would contact me to render payment when the letter is ready.

Mine was $100 for a 1911. It took around five months start to finish in 2023.

Occasionally I open a thread only to find that I I haven’t any idea what it’s about. This thread is one of those. What is a “Colt letter”?

You want to know the provenance of your prized gun. Some gun manufacturers provide you a letter with detailed description, for a fee. Colt is such a company. SIG does not do this.

Imagine that much of the information is not digitally recorded for older firearms, might take some digging into the hall of records paper files to obtain the original order, dates, misfiled information, lost forms.

We have so much in databases today, everything is digitally recorded, and I doubt they are taking the time to put all the original orders into a database for the purpose of creating these letters.

They could hire a half dozen people to look stuff up and charge $260.00 per Serial number.

That might expedite the process
