In the end, it’s only money, and then you die. Then it becomes somebody else’s money and they go out and spend it on the vacation, the splurge, etc.

I ignore the advice and I think I'm doing quite well. Smile All my "savings" are higher now than the day I retired. I haven't taken anything out of what I call or consider savings in 10 years. No reason to so I don't. I refuse to calculate where to take the money from to make it cheapest. I have no choice but to take my RMD each year, so they just dump it into my checking. Then it just washes away like my SS.

Maybe we've done well for ourselves, who knows. I tend not to trust others advice. Someone once said he listens to the very best of advice and then does the exact opposite. I like that guy.

A while back there was a high rise near I71 with a big sign "Retirement University". They went out of business before I could learn more. My 4 year degree in in business. Whoopie shit. I don't trust most advisors, feeling they are more interested in their own well being than mine.

The very best retirement advice I can give is get a good education, then don't over spend.

Question re: WSJ subscription. $4/month for digital access seems like a good deal. The $29/month offer sounds good too - basically get the print version M-Sa and the WSJ Magazine for $1/day.

Is the latter worth it? Or is the digital subscription enough, including if you wanted save an article (printout)? Is it unnecessarily redundant -just stick with digital only?

Mostly want to educate myself on prepping for retirement.

I inherited a modest amount of money from my parents (I was also the excutor, not fun and just recently concluded). The reason my brothers and I got so much was because they died too young. My Dad almost 6 years agao at 73 when we all thought he was in great health and had another 10-15 years. My Mom followed almost 4 years later, but her health was never that good.

My Dad spent right at his means; my Mom was always frugal. They had plenty to live on and my Dad had retired as a Commander in the US Navy.

You can't take it with you.

My wife is the youngest of five. My MIL recently died from Alzehimers (she was diagnosed almost 15 years before her merciful death). My FIL passed in 2019. He socked away money for decades , which was good because the cost of taking care of my MIL was brutal, but he had it covered, then plenty more. My wife will inherit double of what I did.

Still, cannot take it with you. I'm only 54 but I already feel like I'm just a steward for my possessions that I want to pass on. We will try to enjoy the money while we are young enough to do so actively. So, to me, the OP and article makes a ton of sense...

Digital is enough. I got the print edition for about 20 years. The digital takes some getting used to but I find that I like it better. ENJOY!
