I keep seeing ads pop up for TEMU. Orange square with white lettering. The items seem really cool but almost unbelievably low price.

Has anyone ever ordered anything through that online retailer? Is the stuff any good or just cheap crap?

Another CCP attempt to "steal" a market.

Copycat of Amazon / Walmart / other online retailers.

JMHO, YMMV.

Yeah, there seems to be a big promotional push by these commies. I see lots of "customers" online, touting how great is this site.

Don't forget, by law, all Chinese companies are controlled to a degree by the Chinese Communist Party.

I don't have an Amazon account nor do I plan to anytime in the near future.

I was wondering if this was a potential alternative but I'm not giving as little as possible to anything Chinese owned.

I realize it is completely unavoidable to prevent any money going to China as so much is made there, but at least I'd rather have it bought through a company that is American owned.

I have no complaints about Amazon, though I am familiar with the arguments as to why I should shun them. Amazon is just too convenient and this was especially true during the ridiculous COVID lockdowns.

I have had an Amazon account for 23 years. I can look up any and all items I've ordered in that time. I can return items with no hassle. Since Amazon began their partnership with UPS, I don't even have to package items. I just bring the item in its original packaging to a UPS location, including UPS stores and let them scan the QR code Amazon sent me in the email on my phone.

There seems to be very little I can't get via Amazon.

My issues with Amazon are complex. Mostly it is rooted in their base company agenda to be not only the only retailer in the world, but also the sole source for everything from shipping, grocery, electronics, services to communications, etc.

My former employer did extensive work for Amazon in Distribution Centers and other facilities nation wide. Part of the reason I am no longer with that company is due to Amazon.

In 2021 they over forecast growth. Typically companies use 2-5% per year, they were using 22-28%. In March of 2022 they realized they had made a huge mistake as the online retail market cooled. they lost $200M in labor cost in Q1.

In May of 2022 they pulled back $1.5B in work from one competitor and $1.2B in work (that is PO in hand and work commenced) from another of our competitors. My former company had a directive from corporate that limited how much we could do with a single client and thus insulated us to an extent from losses of that magnitude.

The ripple effect was significant and coupled with the economy the whole industry ground down. Layoffs were common at competitors and my former company held off until January when my entire team and I were let go with 10% of the professional staff including SVP and VP level. A month ago they did a second layoff.

The industry is still struggling but is starting to rebound a bit.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of a company who's goal is market monopoly and then screws up on a massive scale resulting in a LOT of people losing their jobs across an entire industry. That is too much power to influence and do damage in my opinion. We were the biggest company in our industry and the competitors noted were #2 & @4. Regardless you do EVERYTHING the Amazon way if you are going to do business with them. It is their way or the highway. There is literally the Amazon way, and the way everyone else does it.

I know a lot of people LOVE Amazon, I think my sister practically lives on it. I've seen behind the curtain and I don't like what I see. My preference is to find the manufactures of the items they sell and buy direct.

Yep. Basically just the latest trendy online source for super cheap (in quality and price) Chinese products shipped directly from China, akin to Wish, AliExpress, etc.
