Hello, heading out Monday and am hoping to get some feedback on what my bourbon options will be? I’m hearing that the bar at the steakhouse will have the best selection, but the little bit I can find online shows more scotches than bourbons, and even the scotches I see are not impressive. For context, I typically drink Buffalo Trace or Bullit, occasionally splurge on Blantons when I can find it.

Last fall did an Alaskan Cruise and with the drink package was blown away by the options, at this point I’m considering stashing a bottle of something in my luggage so that I’ll have something to drink in the room.

Daughter and SIL go to a resort there, last time they had to ride out a direct hit from a hurricane. Resort did as well as they could moving everyone to the interior building.

From what I understand, Mamajuana (pronounced mah-mah-WAH-nah) is a unique spiced drink made by infusing a mixture of rum, red wine, and honey with a specific blend of tree bark and herbs is the drink of choice.

But if they don't have your choice, bring a bottle or two you like.

Make sure it's legally allowable to bring alcohol into the DR.

Yep, a good Don Armando or Bermudez will help you forget about your single malt, at least for a little while. Mamajuana for extra credit.

I’ve seen Miami. Shelves of Blantons like it’s Knob Creek here. Unfortunately flying direct out of MSP.

You can bring up to 3 liters of alcohol into the DR inside your checked bag.

Staying at an ‘all inclusive’? If so they usually have the lower end offerings. Yeah, may have a ‘whiskey’ or ‘rum’ bar on site, better stuff.

The duty free at the PUJ airport has selections, seems easier than bringing something in your checked baggage.

If at the all inclusive, you could try to adjust your palate some. Streight tequila is ok too, if one of the better brands.

Yes, all inclusive.

I don’t shop the duty-free very often, are we able to shop the duty-free of the country we are entering?

Yes, as you exit Customs, Punta Cana airport they file you through the duty free shop, been there myself. If needed I ask the sales people for recommendations.

But no sense bringing to much of anything to an all inclusive, they can have a little better stuff squirreled away behind the bar. The last time I was down I resorted to a little ‘sipping tequila’, then other times asked for a ‘strong mix’. It’s handy to have a bunch of singles with you, a little tipping can improve your lot.

If at the all inclusive I’d be more likely to mine the supply already offered. Most all inclusives will also have a liquor store, another option.

I consider it rather safe in the D.R. but keep your wits about you if going off the property.

Try Zacapa 23 on the rocks or in an old fashioned, that should be easy to get.

Try some of the Dominican Anejo Rums. A few of the brands are mentioned above. I can't remember which one, but one of the Anejo's has a gold mesh wrapping on it. Very good. IMHO, much better than the Bacardi Anejo. Pairs great with a good cigar.

Be careful on cigars, there are a lot of fake Cubans out there, the Label is key most of the time if you know what you like, learn the nuances.
