Pressure to add a gas fireplace outdoors in a sheltered/covered location. Not an option to have wood burning at this location because of venting and cleaning issues that would arise, however, air circulation for a gas log set will be fine.

Anyone with experience with this? Keeping it looking nice, clean, spider and bug free etc? Resources to direct to?

We have a propane fire table that we use underneath a covered porch. Works great on those chilly evenings outside...

Ours doesn’t use logs though; it uses colored glass “rocks”. We’ve had it about a year, and so far I haven’t noticed any spider issues. We have a cover for it, so it stays clean. Not sure if that helps.

We have a gas fireplace built into our back porch. Bought matching log sets for our indoor and outdoor fireplaces. They look great, but don't put off much heat, even when sitting a few feet away - its more for ambience. Ive heard some wasps buzzing in the chimney and a quick fire takes care of it. Never seen spiders in there - but same result.

I've made plans for a ventless fireplace to be build/installed using the fireglass and with a stainless steel cover door to close when not in use and keep the creepy crawlies out.

Sorta’. We have a two-sided gas fireplace. One side of it in the great room, the other faces our covered back patio. Ours is also glass rocks rather than “logs” too. It gets Miller moths inside it in the early summer. Once a year we pull the glass and the rocks and clean everything. Not that big a deal. It extends cigar smoking season for me by about a month on either end.
