I just recently learned about the Israeli T3 Emergency Bandage as I was researching options for EDC medical gear. It looks to be a decent step forward in capabilities over the original. It can do a lot. Just wanted to share it with you all. I'm going to order a few.

Thanks for the info, I sliced my leg open Thursday morning with a box cutter type of razor knife and ended up using two NAR emergency trauma bandages I had in my first aid kit to slow the bleeding while going to the ER. I’m going to restock my kit so I think I’ll add some of those.

Can someone tell me why these bandages have a "shelf life"?

The ones I have seen have a "use by date" on them, but they are good pretty much indefinitely as long as they are sealed.

The seals are expected to fail after a certain time. They can’t guarantee sterility once the seals fail.

I’ve read studies that severely expired items remain sterile for incredible amounts of time, as long as they aren’t subjected to obvious contaminates.

What if you sealed them in mylar bags for storage?

I’d expect they would stay sterile indefinitely, the limiting factor being decay.

With cotton gauze pads, sealed in paper packs, it was normal for one several years old found in the bottom of trauma bag to completely disintegrate upon being opened. Different product, obviously, but eventually...

That's a good point. I guess they are cheap enough that they can be replaced every few years.

Use the *old* ones for training and practice.
