On April 21, 1836, 910 soldiers of the Texian army, commanded by Sam Houston defeated 1,360 soldiers of the Mexican army commanded by General Santa Ana. The Mexicans suffered 605 KIA, 208 WIA and 300 captured. The Texians had 11 KIA and 30 WIA, including Houston. This engagement broke the back of Mexican power and led to the establishment of the Republic of Texas. The Mexican KIA'a were left where they fell and never buried because the Mexicans burned the Texian bodies from Goliad and the Alamo.

Found out earlier this year that our property in S TX was Spanish land grants from the 1600s.

Mom's side of the family came in from Tennessee on horseback in 1823 with Stephen F. Austin. We had Mexicans land grant of a sitio, 4,000 acres. Wish we still had it! We were Mexicans for 13 years, later we told the Mexicans to come and take it!" Meaning come get your cannon. We changed sides and fought for Texas. My namesake ancestor was in Louisiana recruiting soldiers for the Texas Army when the Alamo happened.

You reminded me of a co-worker and friend that passed away a few years ago.
Even after he retired he would text us guys in the shop with reminders of Texas holidays.
Dude was still 6’5” in his mid seventies. Had an interesting life. And knew electrical controls like nobody else I had met.
