Well, based upon the Whats in Your Glass thread, I've kept my eyes open for Buffalo Trace Bourbon. I picked up a bottle today for $23 at Total Wine. Now what? I am a beer drinker, primarily German lagers/pils/dunkels plus micro-brews of the same, and also enjoy red wines. My exposure to hard liquor is Jack & Coke once a year at Missouri Tiger football games. Do you drink BT straight, straight on ice, mix it with something? ![]()

Some folks like a splash of water in their bourbon, some like it neat and some folks like myself like it over a couple ice cubes. While Buffalo Trace isn’t my go-to bourbon, i’d never mix it with something nor pour it out of my glass. Sit back and enjoy. ![]() __________________ Member NRA Member NYSRPA

Great choice! I like Buffalo Trace either neat or on the rocks. It’s definitely not a mixer. “Everybody wants a Sig in the sheets but a Glock on the streets.” -bionic218 04-02-2014

BT is one of my favorite bourbons, I drink it with one small ice cube and enjoy it. Very hard to come by here in Southwestern NC and never at that price. Sit back and sip a nice bourbon, especially at that price! Please don't ruin it with a mixer like Coke!!

I'm with you. I also like scotch and bourbon, but in smallish amounts. My suggestion would be to put a few cubes of ice in a short glass, a shot of bourbon and try it. Swish it around to let a little of the ice melt. If it's too strong, you can add a little water. NOT much. "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor

Bourbon I enjoy with ice. Scotch I drink neat or with a splash of water. And I drink a lot of both. ~Alan Acta Non Verba NRA Life Member (Patron) God, Family, Guns, Country Men will fight and die to protect women... because women protect everything else. ~Andrew Klavan

I drop one ice cube and let it melt halfway and enjoy. Btw, I pay 28.99 when I find it here and am glad to find it. Blanton’s under $60 if you can find it is your next mission, should you choose to accept it! I quit school in elementary because of recess.......too many games --Riff Raff--

Cheap bourbon feel free to mix it with coke or 7up. Otherwise with a good bourbon like you have I would just put a large ice cube in a glass and sip it. My wife bought me a glass that comes with a silicon insert that only allows the glass to half fill with water. That way you have one large ice cube that keeps your bourbon nice and cold but it doesn’t melt fast like small ice cubes that water down your good bourbon. They also make liquid filled metal “cubes” that you can freeze and they will also keep your bourbon cold without watering it down. I personally don’t like room temperature bourbon but many people do so you might want to try it that way also.

I agree a cube or three of ice and let it mellow as you sit and enjoy... like beer it may take time to learn to actually enjoy it.... then again my preference is on the front porch with a good cigar, my wife, dog and cat as the sun goes down and that is not happening right now with the weather. I usually put an ice cube in a tea cup and then add enough bourbon to just make the ice cube float. Give it a swirl to cool and then sip on it. For higher proof whiskies I will use two or even three ice cubes. With whiskies it can be easy to be sober until your suddenly not. A few others to try: Weller Special Reserve, Bernheim Wheat Whiskey (currently a favorite), Col EH Taylor Small Batch Bottled-in-Bond (a must), Henry McKenna, Belle Meade Cask Strength Reserve ($$), Elijah Craig. Good rye whiskies are awaiting on you also. Do a search on 'bourbon tree'. The bourbon tree diagram will give you a booster on the various distillers and their offerings. Just because some folks swear by it doesn't mean that it will taste good to you. Don't be afraid to not like it. I have tried many bourbons (BT was not one) and found very few that I cared for. Most were too sweet or something else. I have now settled on Rye because it is less sweet.

Wow. That’s cheap for one of my favorites. I second the case purchase. Low $30s around here.

Rocks for me. I like the way the taste changes from the first sip to the last. Buffalo Trace has been easy to come by at my local liquor store for quite a while now. Must be something to it.

Buffalo Trace is my go to "well" bourbon. Ease into drinking bourbon if you are a noob. Start off with a Coke and bourbon, or a mixed drink like an old fashioned. From there, you can try to add some water, or drink with a large ice cube before moving to drinking it neat. The Trace is a very approachable bourbon with good body, and a rounded aftertaste.
