I forget the full history. I believe it was an email group for a while, became the forum in 1999 or 2000? We need a SIGforum history sticky!

I heard eons ago, this mysterious stranger, who liked to be called Para, rode into town spreading wisdom and wealth to all he came into contact with. somewhere around January 20, 2000 I believe. So, like the end of the last century.
