Colin Kaepernick will be recognized with Harvard University’s “highest honor in the field of African and African-American studies” next month.

The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback, who became a figurehead of the controversial movement of NFL players taking a knee during the national anthem to protest police brutality against African-Americans, will be awarded the W.E.B. Dubois medal on October 11. The seven other recipients of the award will include comedian Dave Chappelle and Kehinde Wiley, the artist who created former President Obama’s presidential portrait.

“The medal honors those who have made significant contributions to African and African American history and culture, and more broadly, individuals who advocate for intercultural understanding and human rights in an increasingly global and interconnected world,” Harvard said in a statement.

“In the year of the 150th anniversary of his birth, W. E. B. Du Bois would be proud of the eight individuals being recognized at this year’s Hutchins Center Honors,” said center director Henry Louis Gates Jr.

Kaepernick has been without an NFL job since the end of 2016. Critics have called his taking a knee for the anthem a slight to the flag and veterans, while he has accused the league of colluding to blacklist him in a lawsuit. Meanwhile, he has reappeared in headlines after becoming the face of Nike’s latest ad campaign.

All he's done is take a knee during the national anthem, wear some offensive articles of clothing and tried to explain (and re-explain) himself in a few press conferences. He's not written anything, published anything, gone on tour...yet, the left is falling all over themselves trying to out-do one another bestowing honors and recognition. This guy has figured out how to do nothing but, have everything handed to him

I'm hopeful that this kind of bullshit will wake up the rest of us and motivate us to get out and vote in the midterms.

Yeah, remember when 4 big name schools gave Bill Cosby honorary degrees...that ended well for them!

I think it's actually a good thing that they are putting this clown up on such a high pedestal, because when he fucks up some day (and that day is coming) his fall will be immense.

Shame they cheapen the award for the other's like that.

Hey, he’s just as entitled to the medal as Barry was the Nobel prize. Apparently, just existing is grounds for both.

Was working with some engineers today.

Of the two aerospace engineers with PhDs from MIT, one said something extremely simple and basic in aerospace (like "adding more fuel and air will make more horsepower" type simple).

A third engineer with her degree from Harvard did the "well,.... duh" statement.

Before any retort could be made, I pipe up with "well at least their school isn't giving someone a medal for kneeling during the national anthem." Embry-Riddle strong!!
