Monday Morning Quote of the Week
.
• Make the Chili – A good friend of mine unexpectedly lost her husband. A couple of months later we were running together, chatting about nothing. She asked what my dinner plans were and I told her hubby wanted chili, but I didn’t feel like stopping at the store. We ran a few more minutes when she quietly said, “Make the chili.”.

It took me a few minutes to realize we were no longer talking about dinner. It was about going out of your way to do something for someone you love because at any moment, they could unexpectedly be taken from you.

So today I’m sharing with you that wisdom handed to me by my dear friend that I’ve thought of many times since that day. Next time someone you love wants you to go for a walk, watch a football game or play a board game, put your phone down and give them your undivided attention, just do it. Make the chili. – Jerri Spradlin Hurrelbrink.

Thank you. That is an absolutely fantastic quote.

This is the same reason that my wife and I have always said “I love you” with a hug and a kiss on the way out the door. You never know, it could be your last.

^^^On the money^^^

My wife and I do the same. I’m a retired FF Medic and she’s an ED nurse.
We both know bad things can happen through no fault of your own.

Thank you for the reminder.

I'm definitely one of those guys who sometimes gets so wrapped up in things I forget that lesson.

That IS deep.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Been there.

Done that.

Death will always come knocking. I have opened the door twice, but I have yet to take her by the hand.

Thanks for posting this. It's been running through my mind all day.

My wife is the most wonderful person and I take her for granted too often. I think I'm going to take her out for a nice dinner this weekend.

Great post - I too would like to thank you for the reminder. We get so busy these days, there are too many distractions and with e-devices everywhere it seems the world has lost a bit of humanity. Creating personal space and showing loved ones the care / attention they deserve, it often only requires a little effort yet rewards all.
