Buying DVDs from big auction site Login/Join

I know this is probably a dumb question. I do not know if it is against the rules to name the auction site, but I think it is pretty big. I want to buy a couple of old movies on DVDs. I have been told by some of my younger friends that they will probably be counterfeits and may not work. But the sellers and the DVDs all have good reviews. The prices look good and I cannot find them locally. I am honestly asking for advice and I am hoping for a serious answer. If I have violated any rules by mentioning another site, I apologize. I value this forum and would not want to break any rules.

Iron, I don't normally buy movies so I may not be the best authority, but I did spend a few years overseas and boy howdy do they sell tons of bootleg gear over there.

I bought several cassettes for instance in Korea and they played just fine. Of course that was a different time & different medium but there were lots of odd stuff that you wouldn't find in the States.

The Big Auction site goes out of its way to protect buyers. If it's a bootleg or doesn't work you can force the Seller to accept a return by using the Buyers Tools. The Seller has to take them back and pays return shipping- Regardless of what they state in their ads.

DVDs are kinda becoming so yesterday, and I’m not all that tech savvy. If you just want a few, should be something on eBay or Amazon.

Some of those bootleg, overseas DVDs are locked out from playing on devices in other countries.

If you want to actually own a copy of a movie that may no longer be available when someone decides it’s not “woke”, you want a DVD or Blu-Ray.
I just received a copy of “Song of the South” from eBay, you won’t get one new from usual channels.

DVDs are so cheap these days im not even sure its worth counterfeiting. My guess is that the sellers are likely pawn shops selling off their collections that they paid $1 each for.

Read their listing, review their ratings, and go with your gut.

I see what you did there!

It's worked well for me so far overall to acquire some 'hard to find' DVDs. The only fake I received was a boxed set of 'The Twilight Zone' that shrink-wrapped in an official box very, very close to what you'd buy at a local retail store.

The label on the disks didn't look quite right, and when I had the computer scan the disk it said they were normal DVD-R burned didn't just as anyone would use for backups. Searching online a bit confirmed this was a pirated copy instead of the real product. I notified the seller who seemed honestly surprised to learn they were fakes and he paid return shipping.

I buy all mine used from a big auction site. Only issue I have had was with a Disney movie as the region I received was not the region advertised.
Nothing has been fake.
As someone else stated there is not much money in DVDs anymore counterfeiting is not worth the time.

I bought a couple. One had a slit in the box where it looks like they slid the DVD out and made a copy before selling it. The seller was a florist.

One other thing you might look out is that DVDs are geographically coded to prevent movement from a low priced area like Asia to the US. You would have to recode your DVD player to be able to play that DVD but each player only has a limited number of times you can do that.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual."
