Rest in Peace Mr. Aaron.

Wasn't a Braves fan, but once he tied the record, watched every game I could watching for the record breaking one. A different era of sports for sure back then.

Bill Buckner was my first favorite baseball player, so I always watch him futilely climb the fence in left field when I watch this HR replay.

RIP Hank. I still have a Louisville Slugger Henry Aaron bat I bought in the mid-70's. It's been well used and the machine inscribed signature is pretty worn, but it is still a solid bat.

I met him covering some baseball get together in the later 70's. He was standoffish and seemed unhappy. Not surprising as he was not that far removed from his HR record quest and the ugliness that brought.

I was honored to be in his presence, attitude notwithstanding. As a Cub fan kid in the 50's, it was easy to root for the nearby loaded Milwaukee Brave team of that time.

RIP Hank (not Henry) Aaron.

I remember when he broke the record. He was all my friends and I talked about for several days after. One of my friends went on to play ball in school and professionally in Japan (from what I heard) because of Mr Aaron’s influence on that occasion. I stayed in the bush leagues Big Grin

Really a shame. Aaron was a terrific person and a great baseball player. Wish there were a lot more current day players that had Hank's personality and focus. He will be missed.

Got to see him play and hit a homer in the Astrodome back in the late 60s/early 70's when the Braves were purple and white. The Astros and Braves were either last or next to last in their division back then. It's a loss for MLB.

This one stung a little hearing the news this morning. Born and raised in metro Atlanta, I luckily got to see him play late in his career.

I got his autograph at a bowling alley back in the 70’s that my parents bowled at but lost the darn thing over the years.

The guy took a lot of grief when he was getting close to breaking the home run record, must’ve took the fun out of it for him.

Heard an interesting stat today.. if you took away all 755 of his home runs, he'd still have over 3k hits.

goD must have needed an outfielder from Mobile Alabama today ... that can hit. Travel well and rest in peace, Hank.

Navyshooter isn't the only one to misspell Hank's last name as he did in the thread title (but not in his OP).
September 8, 1955. Hank Aaron standing in front of his locker with misspelled name in the Milwaukee Braves locker room ...

RIP #44. I remember well watching several Braves games (on TV) as he approached and passed Babe Ruth's record with my brothers and father. Hank helped to teach us to love the game of baseball.

Yes, his HR record often overshadowed the fact that he was a very complete player. He was the first player to reach 500 Hrs and 3,000 hits. He was also the 3rd player in MLB history to achieve 30 stolen bases and 30 HRs in a single season (1963). He is also the career leader for RBIs (2,297), along with extra base hits (1,477) and total bases (6,856).

Growing up in rural Alabama in the 60's and only receiving black and white OTA broadcast TV, the pro sports team most consistently shown was the Atlanta Braves (the only pro sports team in the South at that time). I can't recall ever watching a game that Hank didn't do something spectacular in, either at bat, in the outfield or both. We'd watch a game then ride our bikes down to the neighbors and hit a few around. Thanks Hank

R.I.P. Hammerin' Hank!

I grew up in Milwaukee (after Hank's playing days), and his son was one of my high school teachers. One night during a student-faculty basketball game, his IROC Camaro got torched to a crisp in the parking lot! Hank's son's car, to be clear, NOT Hank's. The word around school was that the son was NOT the same class act as Hank!

Rush was talking about Hank today and said that he was on TV two weeks ago getting his first Coronavirus vaccine shot. He heard that African-Americans were reluctant to get the vaccine and he was encouraging them to do so. He hadn't got his second shot yet. I've read several reports and, so far, they only say that he died peacefully in his sleep.

Hank had very quick and strong wrists that allowed h9m to hit fastballs. I think it was the old Phillies pitcher Robin Roberts who was quoted as saying "TRYING TO GET A FASTBALL PAST HANK ARRON IS LIKE TRYING TO GET SUNRISE PAST A ROOSTER"

I am sad to see him leave this planet. I hope they release his autopsy results.I heard he got the vaccine and it could be a pure coincidence, or being related. I would like to know before I get mine although really may not matter.

I will really date myself and recall seeing Aaron play in the old Crosley Field in Cincy against the Reds.
That was Baseball.
R.I.P. Hank Aaron.
