ChicagoSigManDO we have any metal roofing (standing seam) experts on the forum?
If so, would you mind if I posted a quick question about installation of ridge caps? I am not sure my guy did it correctly, and I want to get some input.

BigWhupI used to be in the bidness many moons ago.
There are a lot of different designs so there may be several right ways depending on who the manufacturer is and which product type, as in architectural, snap together, structural type, etc.
They manufacturer should have provided erection drawings or standard details on how the system fits together.

ChicagoSigManHere is a photo...
My question involves the way the ridge cap is attached to the Z support underneath. It appears it is placed on top and riveted. I thought that the edges of the cap were supposed to be folded underneath the Z support and then riveted, so that the cap sandwiches the support and the rivet goes through all 3 layers.
Does the photo depict an acceptable way to attach a ridge cap?

This will work, though the screws are generally placed on the ribs and not the intermediate blocking. Here’s a sample technical document on installing metal roofing and flashing...gm
he also provided a link for the document

Fastening the screws mid-rib has a tendency to tweak the ridge flashing, which is why they are supposed to go on the ribs- cap should be straight and flat. Will give it a wavy shape that isn’t attractive...or correct. He probably has a reasonable claim. If the contractor agrees to repair it, the cap should be replaced and fastened as specified, otherwise there will be holes from the removed screws mid-rib which could lead to rusting at those penetrations. It’s an easy fix, if the contractor is smart enough to take that path...gm
