Everyone is home for the Summer so the place is all closed up.
Looks like Irma keeps tracking west so our place may take more of a hit than I was initially expecting. Looks like it will still be a category 3 when it hits the area. Just trying to prep for cleanup as my grandparents are slated to be back down for the winter the 2nd week of October.

Most of all my contacts down there are like my grandparents and are back up north. Just trying to find the best resource for info on the ground down there without bothering folks who are evacuating and dealing with the aftermath.
We are not their and it is just stuff that can be cleaned, fixed, or replaced. Just trying be be best prepared so the grandparents can be in on schedule if we do any some problems.

National Weather Service warning notices: LINK. Look down the list for your county and coastal or inland. The storm surge warning one gives expected wind speeds and storm surge level. Coastal Sarasota Storm Surge Warning

Thanks for the last links.

Not looking good. Started evacuating the hospital last night and apparently that has never been done before. They shut all the bridges to the Islands tonight.
I guess I'll be headed down in a couple weeks to asses the damage when it is a little easier to get back in.

I am using Ventusky.com to keep track of the winds, waves. Put location in search box on sight.

National Weather Service county specific links:
Manatee
Sarasota

These should give you all the warnings, alerts, watches, etc in effect for each county. Also, there is a spot to put in your zip code in upper left hand corner which will return more specific results. I don't know what the timeline is for updates, but they do change. For example coastal Charlotte County's storm surge warning held steady at 3-5 ft for a while, then went to 6-10 feet and now it's 5-8 ft. Same with the wind.

It's a roller coaster ride. Up, down, left, left, right.... The good news is it will be over soon. The bad news is we won't know what the news will be, good or bad, until it's over.

My parents live in Palmetto and are all boarded up to ride it out. Thankfully they have solid block first floor walls and sit about 30 ft above sea level. I'm currently making arrangements to make a trip down to assist them and friends of there's either late this week or the next. We'll see how it all pans out and go from there.

After talking with my parents last night they told me Manatee County Hospital is closed, however it is right on the river so likelihood of flooding is high.

We are about 2 miles south of the hospital

Power went out at 8:30 last night for my parents however was recently restored. They sit close to the transformer station and the school which is currently being used as a shelter. They had minimal damage with only some soffit damage. Their neighborhood has some trees and fences down but that seems to be the extent of it. The storm tracking much further east really helped. I haven't heard about anything past their area though.
