HildurWhat can you tell me about these German beers?
I guess you could say that you did Nazi this coming.
German beers are excellent, as previously noted don't drink from the bottle. Some like frosted mugs but beer purists will argue that frosted mugs are a no go because they cause more foam, deplete the carbonation and mute the flavor/aroma.
Now that you got me thinking about German beers it's been a while since I watched Beerfest.

sig226fanI have always been a big fan of Bitburger Premium Pilsner, also huge fan of the Schneider Weisse in all styles (dunkle, pilsner & kristall). Started drinking them when in HK years ago at the Biergarten German bar.

I'm a gringo so it's Corona and lime for me. Come to think of it I don't think I've seen any German beers in PR.

I'm trying to remember what beer I drank when I lived in Puerto Rico. That sas a LONG time ago. I do remember going for pizza and happy hour beer on Friday afternoons, with some of the guys from work, when it was "buy one, get one." The Irish guy, the Northern Ireland guy, and the English guy, were all big beer drinkers, and they would sit at a table and order "buy one, get one" -- by the case! I think that they were drinking either Heineken or Lowenbraü.
I did not drink a lot of beer there, Ron del Barralito was so readily available and so inexpensive, and I had fresh limes and bananas growing in my back yard, so we did consume a lot of banana daiquiris.

Indeed. To the point that they will send a beer back if the head has fallen by the time it is served.

I have quite a few fruit trees on my property and the tiny bananas are just about ready in the coming weeks. Banana daiquiris didn't even cross my mind. I'll have to make some some in your honor.

I second that! The Rauschbier I tried in Bamberg is the only German bier I didn’t care for. Everything you were given will go down nicely. I’m enjoying a Paulaner now!

It's
RauchbierRauch = "smoked" or "to smoke" in German
They literally smoke the barley used in the beer and the story goes it was an accident back in the Middle Ages, some brewer had wet grain and was trying to dry it over a fire and it went too far, they made beer with it and liked it.
I was stationed not far from Bamberg and didn't care for that beer at all.

interesting,
I was at a Pub in London, at the bar ordering a Cask Ale,
the guy next to me ordered some Lager, wasn't a German beer, maybe Dutch or Danish,
anyhoo, he was giving the barmaid a hard time cause he had one layer of bubbles across the top of his glass,
one layer,
said he did not get a full pour,
and I am looking at him, his beer, and my Ale with nice frothy head on it,
shook my head and walked off

StramboI haven’t been to London but aren’t all the glasses required to be marked with a line at the imperial pint level?
I love it when they are marked here so you know your getting a full pint. With proper head in a 16oz pint glass you are only getting 12-14oz of beer.

benny6Tried the Spaten this weekend. It was, indeed, a great beer! The wife liked it too.
Served in a frozen glass...
