Lots of gunfire. We’ve only been here a week, but across the river there seems to be a small island I’m fairly sure wasn’t there before. That’s really good duck blind.

8am - 3 guys on a Jon boat just appeared from the island and headed in. They had branches attached to the boat, but the island is still there. I’m not sure if it’s a barge or if they just stuck branches into the riverbed.

8:30am - There’s still guys out there, so there’s at least a barge if not another boat. I was going to fly my drone out until I heard the duck calls and saw them moving around a bit.

Leave the good old boys alone and flying a drone could be considered hunter harassment.

Every dove season Facebook, Nextdoor, and Ring go insane with posts from people newly moved here from California reporting all kinds of gun fire and they thought they moved to a safe area. That even despite many posts in advance letting them know dove season is coming and they will hear gun fire between certain hours. Then you get all the anti-hunters posting on how cruel it is to kill something. Move back to where you came from if you don’t like it!!!!!

Confused I fairly sure that’s exactly what I said I did.

The first boat came back and along with a second boat that came out from the blind picked up the decoys. After they left, I flew the drone out:

Turns out it was palm fronds jammed into the riverbed and not a barge. I love it! At 450 yards, it’s not really “off in the distance” either. My Dad’s house is on the other side of the river. He’s been there for 25 years, so I’m used to it. I’ve been on a canal for the last 25 years, but got a chance to be on the river now. On the other hand, I had to explain to my wife and daughter that everything was fine, it’s just duck season. My son was all “when can we go dad?” He’s right, we should go, apparently we don’t even have to go that far, so I have no excuse.

Some laker lady called in just after 6:00am this morning requesting a welfare check on a boat that was out on the lake with lights on crunching through the ice. It's duck season, lady. City people...Roll Eyes

That was good, but went over my head. If ya had said “this ain’t no disco”, I might have caught on. Cool I had Speaking in Tongues on vinyl and CD.

They are out again:

Stupid duck hunter clearly doesn’t have a clue what he’s doing. This one woke me up at 5am! He said hey dad, we need to borrow grandpa’s electric chainsaw and go get palm fronds. Wink I really thought we had enough fronds, but I hadn’t had any caffeine yet.

Season ends tomorrow, but crow goes another three weeks or so. He’ll be ready next season.
