Rock Auto ... Any Exprience / Opinions?
I am looking for a good on-line source for auto parts. I checked out Rock Auto and found their website easy to use. I have seen some negative comments about them so I am just wondering if anyone here could give them a thumbs up or thumbs down.

If the latter, what on-line source do you like for auto parts?

I've used them. Went well and the parts were perfect. Ship out fast.

Two mechanic friends, they both suggested them. Especially for hard to find items.

Thanks for the replies. That's great to know. One of the on-line gripes I read is that shipping is expensive. I could certainly order something and see ...

I have used them. I would not hesitate to use them again. Parts were great with good prices.

There's always a discount code out there. Search the internet for something along the lines of "rock auto discount code" and then put that into the "How did you find us?" box. I think it's 5% but it's been a while since I've ordered from them.

My last order from them came from 5 different warehouses and took 13 days to arrive. It also cost me $53 in shipping.

If you have a problem the only communication with them is via e-mail.

Never had a problem. I imagine that the shipping complaints are due to items being in different warehouses. May take a bit or trial & error to get things that ship together.

Have used them for 3-4 different cars without complaint.
Got all the parts for the timing belt service on my 2000 TL & 2004 Civic at much less $$ than the dealer.

I’ve used them. I would recommend them. Only thing I’ve noticed is that, on some things, you’d better know EXACTLY what you are looking for.

Great experience on my end, O2 sensors cost half of what NAPA wanted, same Denso sku. The complaint about shipping from different warehouses is valid, but I think I remember it letting you know what is coming from where before you finish the order.

Very unique business model. If you are an independent warehouse distributor, you can partner with them and sell your inventory online. This is why they have the depth and breadth of different brands and parts. It's a great source for hard to find parts or parts for older cars. What would be "dead inventory" sitting in a warehouse for a local market is valuable in the E comm world.

You keep your inventory uploaded in their system. If a customer purchases something you get the order sent to you electronically. You print the invoice and shipping label, pull it, pack it and slap the label on. Carrier picks it up. Rock Auto pays you.

As stated, watch the shipping as things can ship from different warehouses and shipping will add up. But it's honest shipping charges, not jacked up prices and free shipping. Also, know the quality level of what you're buying. They usually have cheapie options all the way up thru premium products, and you'll get exactly what you're willing to pay for.

Just got a fuel pump for my BMW and a water pump for my Frontier.

Both were perfect and arrived early.

Last year, I bought a MAF for the BMW.

Fantastic, but shipping is high. Usually still best deal. Pay attention to good, better, best listing of parts.

I think it allows you to modify sources to minimize shipping costs, although it may actual change the item you buy. So if you don’t mind switching brands on an oil filter or spark plugs, it can work.

I use them all the time. I’ll echo some of the comments re: shipping - just be aware.

They’re GTG, though. Fair prices and good CS.

I'll be doing a full timing belt and water pump service in a couple of weeks. Will use rockauto and save a couple hundred on parts over dealer and local parts stores that sell chinese knockoff parts.

It takes a little more work but it does tell you what warehouse a particular item is at, on a big order I’ve knocked $60 off the shipping by spending $15 more on the parts that were all at the same warehouse.
