Question about police escorting a vehicle while out of their jurisdiction
Another point, if the politicians had to suffer the same traffic stand-stills that the peasants did, perhaps they would be more motivated to fix the damn road systems

Knowing what one is talking about is widely admired but not strictly required here.

Although sometimes distracting, there is often a certain entertainment value to this easy standard.

I agree with jljones it is not the police officers job to escort funerals to the cemetery.

I live in small...and I do mean small <than 1,000 population rural Texas town. At one time we had a police escort for all funerals because we had to cross a major 4 lane highway. They would shut down all 4 lanes of traffic while the funeral crossed. Everything worked great until....one day a delivery truck driver was checking his tickets and not paying attention to the traffic. He hit a car that was stopped to allow funeral traffic to cross. The stopped car was driven into the patrol car. As luck would have it 5 of the pallbearers ( me included) were in the next car that would have crossed were EMT's. We got out, took off our coats, and went to work. Luckily no one was seriously injured but that was the last of the police escorts.

Here in NC it's deputies on their day off who get a Ulysses S Grant for their time....not guys working the shift....

Preach it.

Same with healthcare, firearms laws, and everything else.

What is the law concerning this situation?

The answer to your question, all the bullshitting and chest-thumping aside, is: It depends.

It depends on WHY they were doing it and what the specific laws of the states in question say.

I often run code outside my jurisdiction, the county I work in, because there are certain parts of our county that can only be reached by driving through another county. The same would be true of a neighboring state, or a pursuit into a neighboring state, if my county bordered the state line.

The problem is YOU don't know why they had their lights on. In Colorado the law is that you yield to a stationary or moving emergency vehicle with it's lights and/or siren on. Doesn't have to be from th e county you're in, doesn't have to be from this state or even this country. The WHY , for you, doesn't matter.

Most places it's an overtime detail, like sitting in construction zones, so how about you stow your self-righteousness bullshit?
