Was helping out a relative over the weekend with a new Windows 11 PC she bought from Dell.

She was annoyed/frustrated by the Win11 insistence that she enter a PIN each time she wanted to get to her desktop so I tried to turn it off. You can turn it off but then STUPID Microshit makes you enter a password! There is no way to just turn on your machine or wake it up and get to your desktop. She is the ONLY person who uses the machine and it's in an office room inside a house and ever going anywhere.

para, I guess that means I should go to my paused updates section, and hit resume updates. Maybe I should try it on my laptop first. I know you are trying to help, and can't make the decision for me, but it scares the sh*t out of me to risk losing my main computer now. It IS possible to remove/disable both the Windows Hello PIN and the password requirement at login in Windows 11.

It does NOT involve installing Linux, however that 'might' be the best solution!

It took a while, but it worked on my laptop. I guess I'll try my main computer now...

Touching the fingerprint button ought to work. Maybe you need to configure it to do that though. Also, you’d need to train the button to recognize your fingerprints.

^^ How do you know it has a fingerprint sensor? While many do, it's certainly not all.

Removing the PIN/Password requirement(s) would be the path of least resistance and/or frustration.

Successful updates on both computers. Slow on laptop, quick on desktop. Both say up to date. Have shut down and restarted desktop twice; seems fine.

That takes a huge worry off my mind. Thank you, para, so very much.

She should not be forced to "log" into her own computer each time if she is the only user, password, PIN or fingerprint.

Both my Win11 laptop and desktop do not require any type on login when powering on or waking up from sleep mode.

Do a search on Youtube for "Disable Login for Windows 11". It's not something I'm interested in doing but the search finds several videos on how to do it.

Mac user here. My Mac requires either a password or a fingerprint when coming out of sleep mode, but it also recognizes the Apple Watch and unlocks automatically when I'm wearing the Watch.

Hopefully, I will have no issues as I just bought a Dell M7760 work station with 11 Pro. It's been some time since I've tinkered around in Windows so I am in for an awakening.

In regards to disabling the password, pin requirement on boot up I found this:

"To disable the password box on boot in Windows 11, turn off "
For improved security, only allow Windows Hello sign-in" in Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options. Then, run netplwiz, uncheck "Users must enter a user name and password," and enter your current credentials twice to enable automatic login".

I haven't tried that so unsure if it will work, but worth a shot.

The trick is to take your time on your initial boot up. When you come to the "sign in" screen look for "other options" or a similar box. It will be in small print. Click on that and choose the box that says something like "work or school" and then click on the box that says this computer will be part of a DOMAIN.

If that walk-thru above does not work I know there is a option that windows gives you to re-start initial boot. I forgot where I saw that now. I suspect she would lose whatever stuff she has done in the last few days but having to deal with that pin or sign-up screen all the time, I would do it in a heartbeat.

When I boot up my new Dell laptop it takes less than 15 seconds and there is nothing but a brief "welcome" screen. I never get asked for a pin or a sign-in.
