In almost 30 years of cellphone use, I have never done anything truly stupid (let's discount the one I knocked off of a scissor lift to a concrete floor 26' below--that was an accident).

Yesterday morning I had to run a load of laundry. In a hurry to throw the cargo pants I was wearing in with the load, I emptied the pockets, pulled the belt, and into the wash they went.

I totally forgot about the cellphone pocket on the left leg.

About ten minutes later I was looking for my phone and couldn't find it. Well, I couldn't have thrown it in the wash. I looked everywhere to no avail. Since I heard the washer spinning out after the wash cycle, I figured "what the hell, let's look."

There, in about 2" of water remaining in the bottom of the tub lay my Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini.

Figuring I was already screwed, I decided to assess the damage.

The phone was powered down (it wasn't when it went in), so I assumed it was shot. I popped the Otterbox case, wiped the phone off, and pulled the battery compartment cover: two drops of water inside, battery, SD Card, and SIM all bone dry!

I left it sit in the sun on my windowsill for about two hours (I thought about rice, but only had some really good Basmadi and wasn't sacrificing that).

At that point, I thought I'd give it a try, just to see how bad it was. Put the battery back in, closed the case, and hit the power button: the damned thing came right up!

I tested all functions over the course of about an hour and the phone works perfectly. I couldn't believe that any phone would put up with that kind of stupid abuse. Yeah, I'll take luck any time.

V-Tail,

My Otterbox is from the Symmetry Series. Listed on Amazon as discontinued for the S5 Mini, may still be available for your phone.
