We are moving a safe into a customer's home the other day. Typical two man crew with me and one of my guys. At some point two trucks belonging to a contractor show up.

We are in the basement with the husband and the wife was upstairs with the contractors. Very large house. All of a sudden screaming. Not raised voices. Not a pleasant disagreement. It sounded like something had gotten physical, or was about to. Man vs. Woman.

I look at the husband, and he's just standing there. Didn't seem concerned at all hearing this ruckus and knowing that his wife was alone upstairs. I asked where his stairs were, he pointed, and myself and my guy went up to see what the hell was going on.

Seems there was a very heated disagreement between the wife and the contractor. The owner of the other company (fairly large and recognizable in our area) was the male voice I heard from the basement. The guy with him was also standing there somewhat in disbelief. It hadn't come to blows, but they were in each others faces waving hands and pointing fingers.
We didn't have to say a thing or do anything besides make our presence known. Once he saw us things seemed to deescalate several notches.

I was beside myself. As a business owner I have had my share of disagreements but would never act like that with a customer or in front of other witnesses. As a man, I would never scream and yell and a woman over such nonsense. And as a husband, I certainly wouldn't stand there while somebody acted like that with my wife let alone hide in the basement.

What the hell is wrong with people?

Ya got me hangin'. If it'd been me, and it had been my home and my wife, I'd have been up those stairs like a shot.

And that contractor would've had about two NY heartbeats to apologize, or he'd have been my ex-contractor--right then and there.

Sounds like the husband was used to his wife losing it and throwing a tantrum. He probably is tired of trying to calm things down and has probably had a bunch of it himself.

The contractor was probably too deep into a job or past job and knew she wouldn't let up and yet he couldn't walk away from the job. Looks like he had to stand his ground.

Kind of like those parents that never spank their kids and they just go off in public and in front of friends and they just go on like nothing awkward is happening.

Finish the job and beat feet before she turns her wrath upon you.

Don't get me wrong, I'd protect a woman if she was being attacked too but I've seen enough psycho women to know when to stay out of things.

The last, and only contractor that got "heated" in my house left without getting paid. His boss, the owner, had to come by a couple days later to set things right. (He did set it right, and so got another job for us.)

We will use that contractor, again, but that employee will not be again be allowed on our property. If the owner cannot do the job alone, or with another employee, or with my help, I'll have to contract with somebody else.

That was my first thought too. Equal rights equal fights. Sometimes a woman acts like a man enough times that you gotta treat her like one. Personally I wouldn't judge the husband too harshly until you have lived with the wife.

Now if it was my wife I would be upstairs in a flash and that dude would be leaving shortly after. But I don't live with a psychopath like some men do.

In 37 years of marriage I have never heard my wife scream. Never. If that had happened in our home I would have been up those stairs in a second. I realize everyone is different and relationships can be different, but that is a very weird reaction, or non reaction.

There is a segment on one of the programs about the Mafia where the FBI goes to this mob guys house to talk to him. His wife answers the door, says he isn’t there.

They knew he was there, so one of the FBI guys says somethng in Italian, maybe she was lying, or worse. She gets mad and slams the door. Pretty soon, the mob guy opens the door eith his coat in hand and says, “Let’s go. I’d rather go with you guys than stay here.”

Apparently, speaking to her in that way, in Italian, was a show of disrespect. Hubby was supposed to have defended her honor, but would rather go with the agents than face her wrath.

Since it is poor form to actually fight, it’s sometimes best to just avoid them.

Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

When you had the votes, we did things your way. Now, we have the votes and you will be doing things our way. This lesson in political reality from Lyndon B. Johnson

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown
