I have a pc running temperature monitoring system and would like to be able the screen somewhere else over the network. Maybe one or two other computers. No need to take over or remote access them altering the running session on the original computer.

Is there a freeware program or OS integrated solution for this?

Chrome remote desktop will allow you to view the screen from another machine and control the session if you choose.

I would suggest remote desktop which should be built in to the PC. I use it for connection of PC to my MAC every day for work. Yes it gives you full control but just use it to display the remote desk top (temp monitoring screen).

Haven't tried Chrome RD yet but am familiar with the MS build in remote desktop and I do not thin it will work since AFAIK it takes over completely.


The original computer is at the heart of the company but the romote viewers would be 200ft away in oposite directions. I'd like them both to display the original screen all day long, simultaneously. A way to still give some useful purpose to order PCs. Nothing gets thrown out in my resourceless world.

Tight VNC, anydesk are both free.

I can't imagine there is no RDC client with a "view only" mode.

Any open source VNC package will let you do this as well.

Finally, there are the third-party server-based remote control applications, "Back to my PC", "TeamViewer", et. al. Some of these must support "view only."

How about a video splitter switch that runs over Cat5 or Cat6. Basically you are placing a box at the host computer's video output and sharing it over cat5.

Unless the program has network capabilities then you are limited to using a remote desktop application, extended monitor from the original computer (obvious limitations) or get a device that has the capabilities.

Probably way more than you need but I use a device from AVTECH to monitor server rooms.
But you get the idea and perhaps something similar may work for you.

How about MS RemoteApp, which uses RDP but only delivers the desired app, instead of the entire desktop?
