A vice news production (bleh), but it would certainly be a spectacle to beheld. I don't think I'd be gutsy enough to suit up myself. WOW! That's nutso! Get to watch though. Thanks for posting this. RMD TL Davis: “The Second Amendment is special, not because it protects guns, but because its violation signals a government with the intention to oppress its people…” Remember: After the first one, the rest are free.

Hmmmmm, that is a very "interesting" sport. I wonder what it costs to get into it (not that I would consider doing so).

I read somewhere that a broadsword of that era weighed 15 pounds. And required great strength and stamina to actually use it in a fight. End of Earth: 2 Miles Upper Peninsula: 4 Miles

I do the "lesser" version of this sport, which is SCA. We use Rattan weapons instead of real steel. Safer, but still a big potential for injury. I would NEVER fight real steel. That said, a decent quality suit of ACL(armored combat league) armor is gonna be around 2 grand minimum, and they get absolutely destroyed on the battlefield, so you're replacing parts constantly. My SCA full stainless suit cost me about 2 grand, but it's a lot more armor than required for SCA. This is me: ________________________________________________

100% baloney. A one handed sword weighs 2-3 pounds. A 2 handed sword weighs 3-5 pounds. Medieval weapons were made to be as light as possible. All the modern cheap "replicas" that you see online and at the ren faire and whatnot weigh 2-4 times more than a real sword. A real sword is gonna cost around or over 200 bucks at least. You will notice the difference in weight and balance immediately. This is the real (starter) sword that I own and I think it clocks in at 3.5 lbs: https://www.amazon.com/CS88ITS...300_QL70_&dpSrc=srch ________________________________________________

This. Actually the strength required was to move (somewhat with agility) in plate armor. Early full plate was upwards of 40-50 pounds, and became heavier as hand cannons became more prevalent. Foot soldiers and mounted knights were dressed out differently, but freighting around 50 extra pounds was...wearing. Modern combat soldiers may carry as much, but modern combat requires considerably less physical whacking than 12th century one-on-one. In the early 1980's a girl I knew participated in SCA events, though not combat. She told me that a motorcycle gang tried to break up a SCA match one day, and had their asses handed to them. -------------------------- Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats. -- H L Mencken I always prefer reality when I can figure out what it is. -- JALLEN 10/18/18

Wow. I never thought about the equipment that gets demolished, or damaged beyond repair, or damaged where it is no longer safe. I was just thinking you buy the stuff and just keep using it. Thanks for the reply.

I think I would enjoy the hell out of that, so long as nobody hit me. I guess these folks aren't concerned about CTE. Seems like there's a lot of bell ringing going on.

A few years ago they tried to bring jousting out as a mainstream sport, had several specials, and a few tournaments on TV. Never really took off. "Hold my beer.....Watch this".
