patwApparently, I have yet to see it all: Grilled Romaine lettuce
A buddy of mine on the f.d. told us he was going to make us some grilled Romaine lettuce, as a side dish for dinner. I had never thought or heard of it. It was actually pretty good and had a good flavor. It's pretty simple and doesn't take long to make. Just use a stalk of Romaine-cut it in half, brush on some olive oil on both sides and season as you like. Grill each side for about 3-4 minutes and then cut up,serve and eat. It is actually better if you eat it warm. It brings out a taste of the Romaine I never had.
My son, who has been learning Spanish, laughed at the idea and yelled out "La lechuga esta caliente" or "the lettuce is hot". It is something he remembers most about Sapnish class and thought he would never be able to say it.

BeancookerInteresting and odd. I’ll try it the next time I have romaine and grilling.

oddballYeah, it was kind of the rage 10 years ago, I remember grilled romaine and grilled peaches salads. I used to make it on picnics at that time, with a bleu cheese dressing.

ArtieSLooks good. I'd add crumbled bacon and chunked bleu cheese.

kkinaHot lettuce is the traditional first dish for someone learning how to use a Chinese wok. It's also not bad at all, and I still make it sometimes.

Yup, around the time home smoking and ceramic cookers started generating interest (and better You Tube cooking vids), all sorts of recipes started to pour out. Really creative grilled veg ideas started popping up, and outdoor dining wasn't limited to mediocre potato salads and underwhelming corn.

nhracecraftWe've been grilling Romaine for years. We add homemade Caesar Dressing, freshly grated/shaved Parmesan Cheese, freshly ground Pepper and a touch of ground Salt....Yum!

P220 SmudgeInteresting. I don't think it would have ever occurred to me to attempt such a thing, but I think I just might have to now.
