It depends. I've had some show quality vehicles. They were hand wash only, and that wash was almost a detail. Right now I've got a one year old and a daily driver SUV. I keep it fairly clean all things considered, but there's rarely a time that it doesn't have something that could use more attention.

"The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people."
"Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy."
"I did," said Ford, "it is."
"So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?"
"It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want."
"You mean they actually vote for the lizards."
"Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course."
"But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?"
"Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."

Ummm not very…

Unless it is in bullet casting or hand-loading pistol ammo, then I am definitely close…

He bought a big power boat, and in one long weekend designed and built, with the help of a hydraulic press, a trailer made of a huge aluminum I-beam to hold the boat. It may not have been perfect, but it sure was good enough.

I always remind myself of my brilliant friend getting a less than stellar review at work one year - “Quantity of work suffers due to insistence on perfectionism.”

I generally keep my guns, cars, and tools very clean. My car is detailed level clean including its entire engine bay. Now if I was driving something a little more utilitarian like a Honda accord or Toyota Camry I wouldn’t put that kind of effort into it. I enjoy the finished product. As far as guns, I like them serviceable and ready to go to work when I reach for them, but don’t over clean them.

I tend to be a little "untidy." But you'll never see my car or home like this, either.

Older thread of mine from 2020 for more examples
