On my iPhone, the google maps app used to have several “view” selections: Map, Satellite, Hybrid, and Street View. I can no longer find any of the latter three selections. For Street View, the direction of the view could be swiveled. The street views were created by google drones that covered much of the US, especially most cities. Searching the web, I found this link:

But its instructions didn’t help me find the old Street View. There were some photos of various places near your marker, made by “contributors”.

Does anyone know how to bring up the google map Street View that I described above?

I found if you click on the street you get a small rectangular popup. It might take a couple of clicks depending on what "mode" the page is in at the time. If you click on the small image in that popup, you get the street view. Then there will be a smallish square inset in the top left corner of the page; if you click on the left arrow in that inset it will take you back to the satellite view.

Used to be you could just keep zooming in and it would automatically switch to the street view. Dunno when they changed it.

The link to the instructions worked fine for me.

I tapped on a location, it dropped a pin, and in the lower left of the map is a thumbnail. Click on that thumbnail and you're in street view.

Note if you do not tap on a location, you will not see the thumbnail option for street view. Does not seem you can tap on your exact location to get the option (the blue dot). You have to tap just away from the blue dot.

The view selection that did the trick is now named “3D”, rather than “Street View”.
