TDAP and shingles shots
Thanks to all for the replies. I'll be looking into it, but it seems one had better be prepared to put up with at least a couple/few days of symptoms.

Other than a slight fever, and a sore arm, I've never had any adverse reaction to any of these two vaccinations.

I had Chicken Pox as a child and a case of Shingles in my early 40s. Was very unpleasant but not life-threatening. I've not had any shots.

Just got my first shot last Monday after numerous recommendations from people who have suffered from shingles at some point. My arm was sore for a couple of days and I felt a little under the weather for about a day.

My doctor has recommended the shingles vaccine, which I haven’t had. Post covid I’ve developed a heightened mistrust of pharma and some for the medical industry in general.

Ive known a few people have had shingles and they were suffering greatly.
Mr Dr said I need to get one. So my wife and i got the first early last weekI had a sore arm (deltoid) for 3/4 days. Body was a bit sore and I had headaches on and of for 4 days. My wife experienced the same effects.
Yea it was crappy, but if you have ever seen shingles on a friend or family member you woukd run to get a vaccine!

I had the shingrix shot; it began hurting a few hours later, and over the next few days, I could barely lift my left arm. I think it's been a year or so now, and I can still hardly lift a salt shaker with my left arm, if raising it to my side. I can drive and shoot, with my arm in front but, raising it to my left side and up, nearly impossible. Whether it was the shot or not, I don't know, but it seems an odd coincidence.

The wife and I have both had shingles so we got the Shingrix shots a year ago. My arm was super sore the next day and I just felt kind of crummy for a day or two, then I was fine. The wife had zero effects from the shots.

I had a little soreness at the injection site the next day, but no other problems from either shingles shot.

Friends who have had shingles, some who have long-term pain as a result of shingles, convinced me to get vaccinated.

Got my first shot in October and have an appointment for the second on next Monday. I am fearful of the second one but both my sisters had terrible cases of Shingles. I've put this off for many years especially since I do not have Medicare part D; so I have to pay full price but the time has come.

I've had the Shingrix shots with no effects. I've known people who had shingles and it was misery. Easy choice.

My experience is a little different. I had shingles on the right side of my face last summer. I suffered what felt like muscle spasms along my upper jaw line along my ear for about 3 days. Very painful. Finally went to the Dr. And he gave me two medications and a shot of Kenalog. After a couple of days most of the discomfort went away, but it took about a month before I started feeling normal and the sores mostly went away. Never heard of the Shingrix shots till this thread. I’m positive that I did not have the chicken pox when I was a kid, but the Dr. Said I did, but that I was probably too young to remember. Both parents are gone, so no one to ask.

Having shingles is a very unpleasant experience. Itching, burning, a feeling like invasive insects wiggling around inside your skin, scarring from the blistering and scratching. Always the danger of spreading the infection to your eyes, nose, mouth, other bodily orifices.

Anti-viral medication helps a lot, if administered early enough. Bathing infected areas with hot soapy water frequently helps. Lydocayne ointment provides pretty good relief.

Totally unpleasant, best avoided. If the vaccination is offered you should take advantage of that. BTDT.

My wife and I were the same, mild aches and a bit of a stiff arm. Nothing unpleasant at all.

Not sure how you made it to 68 years old without your old doctor lecturing you over the last 10-20 years to get the TDAP and Shingles vaccines.

In any case, glad to hear you'll be getting these.

I've had five PCP's and a cardiologist over that period. It has been mentioned a (very) few times, but only one pushed the idea very much. I do think it's time I did it, and I will be making appointment soon.

First shingles shot this morning. Started feeling a little soreness in the arm after about three hours. Will report more as it develops.

Not much discussion about the TDAP, but it also a good thing to get. It offers a booster to pertussis (whooping cough) as well as updating a person's tetanus protection. Those of us who had whooping cough as a child have waning immunity as we age - the booster answers that. There is no effective treatment for pertussis - and it can last a long time - even to the point of putting one n the hospital.
