For the online version, as I posted previously, I am being charged $40 for the "upgrade" to deluxe and I am also being charged a additional $40 for state. It doesn't say specifically what the charge for state is actually for. According to everything I have been able to find on the $40 download version, the download for state is free but you will still be charged more to file state. How much exactly, I have no clue, but I am guessing a additional $40

I think you are over thinking it. If your taxes are simple, then it's free to both prepare and file your federal and state returns. If you need the deluxe version, then it's $40 to prepare and file your federal return. Then another $40 to prepare and file your state return for one state. You can't find out how much it costs, because it's included.

At least through last year, with the download version, you had to pay for the software and pay an add'l amount to efile. Speak softly and carry a

I've used TurboTax online through my bank for many years. I file simple, and haven't had to pay for anything for years. Old, stubborn, heavily armed.
