grumpy1I killed Kermit mowing the lawn today..
I killed a Kermit mowing the lawn today and dang do I feel bad about it. Lived here 26 years and I rarely, like pretty much never, encounter a frog mowing the lawn. I don't know why but I came across at least a half a dozen of them today and they aren't babies either, juvenile sized I would say in different parts of the yard. I tried to pick a couple up to move them out of the way but they were quick and they headed for bushes. I was just about done and I heard a noise from my trusty Honda mower like a clump of heavy grass or something and then I saw the poor little guy. Well he must have died instantly and he was not moving or twitching what was left of him which is good as I would have felt worse if he was mangled and still alive and no I am not going to post a picture. RIP little Kermit and I hope I don't encounter any of you next time I mow the lawn. Not sure where they came from as no ponds around here for at least a quarter mile. Must have been some mud puddles in nearby yards.

I narrowly missed a turtle yesterday. Saw him, picked him up, and moved him out of the way.
"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Good your you! About five years ago I found a fair size turtle in the back yard, maybe 8 inches long. It was really hot and sunny and he did not look so good. Me and my son took him down to the pond in the park by us and let him go there. Another puzzler as why he was in our area.

You should have waited until he was finished mowing the lawn.

Haveme1or2I don't mind frogs being around but they, just as any other bug/creacher will over populate.
I smashed a couple of tree frogs in the door hinge last spring.
My cats had a field day with the lizards when I came here. They were everywhere ....

ggileI don't see many frogs anymore when I'm mowing, but toads are another matter. I see them all over the place. I have a creek that flows through my property and some low wetlands areas which seem to harbor a lot of toads. Used to see a lot of frogs, but they seem to be on the decline.
I try not to run over the toads if I can and I'm finding that they are learning to adapt to my mowing by crawling deep into the grass as I approach them, so I have to mow over them. I stopped and checked a few times after I mowed over them and it seems to work.

grumpy1I am not against people eating frogs or anything else. I just felt bad cutting the little guys life short. Lots of mosquitoes around here and I can use all the help I can get reducing their population. I will have to get one of those frog horns and mount on my Honda mower.

ensigmaticImagine how you'd feel chewing up a baby rabbit

There was a brown spot in the middle of the lawn, so I ran over it extra slow, to make sure to pick up the dead grass. Little did I know it was dead because it was covering a shallow burrow

Luckily I only got one. I feel bad about it to this day

I stop for frogs, snakes, bees, grasshoppers... You name it, I've damn near run over it.
Had a bee a few days ago land in front of the mower. Gently nudged him. He moved a few inches and sat in front of the mower again. *nudge* He did it again. Must've repeated that about 5-6 times before he finally got the hint. (I let the clover run wild in the very back of the yard for the bees.)
I think I might've gotten a frog once. Hard to say with my mower.

chongosuerteI got a snake one time. It was a mess. Didn’t mean to and made a point to try to never do it again.

2000Z-71Then there's the lovely Sonoran Desert Toads that come out here during monsoon season. Hallucinogenic to people and deadly to dogs. With 2 dogs I have a smack on sight with a shovel policy.

HangtimeDon't sweat it frogs are very minimal on brain function. In biology lab we clipped the top half of there head off as an instructed procedure and they demonstrate functions for quite a long time.
I once devoured a baby bird on my rider by accident . Saw it in the grass right before overrunning with the mower. Now that I grieved over a little.
