aileronI knew a woman named Smooch Riley, her real name. Apparently her Dad used to call her mother "smooch" as a term of endearment, and they decided to name their daughter Smooch.
I'm a Richard, but go by Dick - and yes, I've heard all the lame-ass jokes for, oh, about 70 years.

StorminNorminToday I had a case with a person with the name Slocum. I had to verify it as I thought it was a joke. Funny with timing of this thread.

rebut10I worked with a guy named Dick Rasch (silent "c"). He was not married, and I never heard of him having a girlfriend, or even a date for that matter.

'Dick Aileron'? Sure, it's an unusual family name, but I've seen odder that than.
Many moons ago, my US Exchange SNCO was Staff Sergeant Dwyle K Flunt. He'd legally changed his name to that of his bride, his original name being Guaq , pr. GWACK, and figured that he'd endured enough of his life trying to explain it to people, let alone how to pronounce it...

tacfoleyAh, Mrs tac has just reminded me of a Belgian Warrant Officer I used to work with, by the name of Etienne Voncq, pr. VONK.
My own great-great grandfather was Dieudonné Hypolite Boniface-Massaud, so I'm really not in any position to throw 'name-stones', she added.
