Do they do anything special when you buy at an AD?

So many "divers" with "great clicky bezels," whihc makes all the online watch nerds giggle => jammed up mess if actually worn in the ocean.
This is just silly, I’ve worn my Omega Seamaster(16 years) to the ocean, playing/snorkeling so many times it’s not even funny. I have 4 and 7 year old and play in the sand building sand castle etc. and I have NEVER had an issue with its bezel.
My new sub will be taking the Seamaster’s place from now own and I’m not worried in the least about the bezel around sand.

bionic218Thank you guys for starting this thread. My son is set to graduate college in 25. I was thinking a used or entry level Rolex would be an excellent graduation gift.
That idea has been put to rest. These stories make me sick. I thought it was some nexus in the craft, but it’s not the pinnacle of time-keeping skill.
It’s another game wealthy people play. I want no part of it, and I wouldn’t want my son to think that’s an acceptable way to be or something I held in high regard.

Rick LeeIf you're not a watch guy, and I mean a real watch nut, like you think about your next one all the time, then the current market situation with Rolex is not going be good to you. There are deals to be had, but you have to know how to sniff them out. And an AD won't take you seriously if you walk in, are totally ignorant ot the situation and don't give off any hint of being a watch nut. Plenty of other brands are just as good, cost less and can be bought new in the store as soon as you walk in. If that scratches the itch, do it. If you want a Rolex, you will have to play the game.

You could always get him a nice Omega. They are fantastic watches.

trapper189Yes, but Omega doesn't make "the watch of choice for speleologists, volcanologists and polar explorers" and Rolex does.
Link The white dial Explorer II was my favorite Rolex even before my kid decided he wanted to be a volcanologist.
He's going to have to make do for now with the G-Shock he recieved for Christmas and the Hamilton Jazzmaster Viewmatic he'll be receiving for graduating high school with his college Associates of Arts Degree this May.

lugerguardsCheck in the Grey Market, there are several reputable dealers who have them. I would definitely check with David Truong, he may e able to suggest someone. Are you looking for new?
Nothing here to see!

LS1 GTOAngus, have you tried ADs in Dallas?
I realize it could be a haul for you from Houston but the option might be higher?

But Omega did make the first watch to go to the moon.
That Hamilton Jazzmaster Viewmatic is a sweet watch. I really like the Jazzmaster line and have been very tempted to pick up some of the variants. But when I think about it I probably have too many watches.

Angus the KidI met another AD yesterday. I had a different experience. He said the reason some salespeople play games is because they simply do not have the watches in stock. People that say that there are boxes of watches in the back simply don't know what the hell they are talking about. He said that Rolex tells him when he can order watches. It will probably be a month away according to past order dates. He said I am on the list and he will let me know when to make the deposit for the order. We shall see.

If you need some more sources, I can find out who my grandmother used to use when she lived in the Galleria.
Not sure what part of Houston the 'tent' is

& if the Galleria-area nightmare would be convenient for you.

You'll have it by summer. Not a ton of competition for that one.

sig77Here is a good place to find Rolexes from used to nearly brand new or unworn condition. Will probably save you money.

EdmondThis has been an interesting thread.
I told my wife when I'm 50, I want to be able to buy a Porsche Turbo and an Omega watch. It's not that I will buy those things, I just want to be in the financial position to do so.

It really depends on what model you want, most popular models will be more expensive than retail unless it’s an older quite used model.

Something else Omega doesn't do that Rolex does is make 100% of every watch component in house. You're usually in even higher end territory like Jaegar LeCoultre or Patek Phillipe when you hit that level.
