I have always wanted a new Rolex. Irrational I know, but I don't care.

I have saved and finally have enough money. I visit official Rolex retailers here in Houston and they tell me, "All of our Rolexs are display only, we have none for sale. When Rolex tells us we can order more, they will tell us. Thanks for dropping by. Can I show you some diamond earrings?"

What gives here? Is this common? A recent development?

Buy an Omega, they don’t play these “you have to develop a relationship with your AD and become part of the Rolex family before we’ll let you buy a watch” bullshit games.

Why not just buy a display model, if you can?

Those ADs are full of shit. They probably have a stack of Rolexes on hand. Yes, they're playing games like Smudge said.

Display models are not for sale.

Well, looks like I couldn’t even if I wanted to.

I get the attraction and mystique and maybe someday when I'm older and grayer I'll go down that road, but I'm really happy with my grail watch...Omega Seamaster and I got it second hand.

Isn't David Truong a Rolex dealer?

You can buy new ones easily. There are many reputable sites on the Rolex Forum. Dave Truong can also help you. Contact him. Mimi's jewelry. He is a well respected member on here.

Rolex shop near me was the same, when I was there about 2 years ago. I was there to pick up an extra watch band link for the Submariner my father had left me. The display models were so people could feel and wear them to see which model they wanted. Back then, they said orders were taking about a year to come in ance the orders were placed.

I have no idea how it is now.

The used market is supposed to be quite busy now.

If you do not buy from an AD, you may have to pay secondary pricing, which is generally higher.

I followed the development of the Rolex Yachtmaster for a couple of decades. It was my grail watch. My Son bought one after his undergrad, I was very proud of him and jealous at the same time.

For our 31 wedding anniversary, my wife surprised me with a Yachtmaster.

She and her friends had made some significant purchases (not watches) from a local Rolex AD. She mentioned to the Owner that I had long admired the Yachtmaster. Six months later, a month before our 31st anniversary, they called my Wife to let he know they had one.

When my wife went to look at it. The woman with her told the Owner, "Hey, if she does not want it, I will buy it for my Son". the Owner quickly told her that is not how this works. If my wife did nit want it, there were other customers in the queue for this watch.

I never thought I would own one, and now I wear it every day. The only time it had to be wound, was after my Ablation surgery, as I did not wear a watch for several days.

the good news is the secondary market is much softer than it was 18-24 months ago.

Try Jomas if Dave Truong can't help. I bought a Seiko from them several years ago and the purchase went smoothly.

I bought my one and only Rolex GMT Master back in 1983. They were plentiful back then, had my choice of shops to buy from, and it cost me $700. No-way can I afford what they're asking for one now!

Of course, I don't have to afford one now, all I have to do is get mine serviced, which is out of my budget at the moment. I retired it about four years ago, serviced once in the late 1990's, so it effectively lasted nearly 40 years with one service. Another service would take it to 2040, perhaps!

If you can afford it, buy it!

As others have mentioned, Don’t hesitate to buy preowned no is the time to buy there is a glut on the pre owned sites look on chrono 24 to get a feel on prices
If can can just do it you will be glad you did.

What model are you looking for? I can check with a few ADs that I know. There truly is a shortage, caused by significant growth in the Asian market. Though perhaps we're well into the back end of that now. For many models, the wait is short if you add yourself to the list. For some models, there really isn't a list, because they are truly made in smallish quantities and they go to NFL players and guys that buy a million a year in diamonds. and stuff

I love Dave too, but he isn't the answer for new Rolex.
