Luckily they are doing their job. We have no Mexican drug cartels, no heroin epidemic, no Meth problem, and prescription abuse is no more!

Thank goodness for the DEA.

Their predecessor was BNDD. There are over 4000 special agents. A good percentage of their operations are overseas. Their operations are by nature secretive and often very dangerous. DEA seizes several billion annually in illegal drugs and assets. They do a lot of good in slowing the flow of illegal drugs and illicit pharmaceuticals but they are shoveling sand against the tide. Drug enforcement is a losing battle if you don't diminish the demand for the drugs on the consumer end, but that doesn't mean you don't fight the battle.

With pharmaceuticals alone, there are over a million and a half people in the U.S. handling or dispensing controlled pharmaceuticals and their components, and the pipeline leaks. Can you imagine what prescription drug abuse would be like if DEA were not watching them?

Oh yeah. Sick people with pain would then be able to get the drugs they need. Sure, some druggies will probably steal the drugs and OD, but they're probably going to do that anyway. Some might get a 2nd or 20th chance due to Narcan. But its better that one person with surgical pain get his needed drugs than 20 druggies die for stealing the drugs.

The balance they've struck is to save the worthless and make honest folks suffer.

Get rid of the DEA, problem will work itself out. Remove the warning labels! Can you imagine the hurt that would put on the gains and cartels. There product would be almost worthless.

I'm sure there are a handful of useful and necessary things they do, along with a boatload we could do without and be just fine. Such is the case with all government agencies.

there was an article about an Ohio prop to not respond to a third OD

I agree with that

heroin and other negligent users are nothing more than slow motion suicides

I personally know of five friends that have OD'd on heroin and in every case it wasn't an 'accident'

the only way for the drug problem to be fixed is for the druggies to kill themselves off and then there wont be a market
