Last February is the last time I synced my two Harmony 650 remotes with the MyHarmony app on my nearly 2 year old MacBook Pro. After a Mac OSX upgrade it quit syncing, but I didn't think much about it as I hadn't bought any new devices (just wanted to tweak some customizations like pause between commands).

I cut the cable recently and went with Hulu on Rokus. I specifically bought the Roku Ultra since it worked with my Harmony 650 even though it was $40 more than the Streaming Stick+. I've adjusted the programs in the MyHarmony app, but I'm unable to get it to sync with either Harmony 650 remote. I have the latest OSX and the latest Harmony program, but I still can't sync.

I've tried:
  • all 4 USB-C ports on my MacBook Pro
  • two different USB-C to micro USB adapptors
  • 3 different cables
  • both Harmony 650 remotes
  • Every trouble shooting tip on Logitech's website

The Harmony program just doesn't acknowledge the remote has been connected. Any ideas?

That would be my guess as to the cause. Harmony probably needs to update whatever they update (hardware? firmware? software?) to make it compatible with the new OS. Some Mac software programs break with an OS upgrade, but fortunately they are usually well-supported by the developers, who typically have a new, compatible version out by the time the new OS gets out of beta.

I recently spend 2 weeks in the hospital after open heart surgery and when I finally got homw found that my sister had disconnected my Harmony Hub to have the carpet cleaned.

As a result the Smart remote would work with the Hub but my Iphone wouldn't link up at all. Ended up having to do a full Reset of the Hub and downloading all the Activities from my account at Logitech. After that everything was working perfectly.

Until plan two of my recovery process kicked in. I was on DSL with ATT and planned on changing over to Fibre Optic while I was home recovering. End result was a new WIFI network in the House, that meant redefining all the WIFI links for the various devices in the house. Good news here is that a video on Youtube showed the EXACT STEPS involved in changing the Hub to the new WIFI and it was an easy peasy process. I would suggest that the FIRST resouce you look at for getting your Hub to link up is on Youtube. Because IMO the tech support at Harmony just isn't "up to snuf" with all of the features available on this system. At one point I had a Harmony Tech tell me it was impossible to write an Activity to change my TV input from Antenna to Fibre at will. Turns out that was 100% wrong and it was actually easy to write thsee Activities. Now if I want to watch the cooking shows on the local Create channel I can switch to Antenna anytime I want to do that.

    I've stopped counting.

Mojave does cause some applications to not work properly. My Family Tree software took a shit when I upgraded Mojave, but fortunately Family Tree had an upgrade that corrected the problem.

The problem could be that you have the newest Harmony software. I no longer have the 650 remotes, but IIRC, I ran into a similar issue after getting a new Mac - I had downloaded the newest Logitech software/app, but needed some sort of legacy program/app instead of the new one.

    Look here.

Thanks, but already tried that as I've done every trouble shooting tip on their website.

No dice with customer service today. They escalated to level 2 and will get back to me mid-week.

Have you updated your Silverlight program? It's an MS product and Harmony demands it to work with Safari. And I don't think Chrome works with HArmony.

I just installed the latest Silverlight and it made zero difference.

The MacBook is not communicating at all with the Harmony remote when I plug in the cable. It's not just the Harmony program, the display doesn't switch to a connected symbol and the OSX system report shows zero USB devices connected.

A bit of a sledgehammer option, but - if your MacBook Pro were setup to dual boot to Windows as well as OSX, you could just boot into Windows on the same machine and run it there. I get it would unfuck whatever problem OSX is having. Going through the trouble of setting up a dual boot seems a bit much to program a remote but I use mine for lots of things so it's already in place.

I love Harmony Remotes, but hate their software. I wish a better alternative existed.

I bought a new USB-C to micro USB cable from Amazon and immediately the MacBook Pro and the remote recognized each other. Then, I started the Harmony program and the sync worked.

All of the previously tried cables worked on other devices before and after.

    This is just plain weird.

I had this issue with the PC. Turns out the remote only likes the Logitech cable. None of the other USB cables I had would work.
