How big? Standard rectangular or extra wide?

What resolution is your computer able to handle? "High Def" (Full HD) means 1080p resolution, which is about one step up from the very bottom of current technology. There's about a half dozen or more choices going up in tiers from "High Def" which is limited by how much horsepower your computer is putting out.

What connections/outputs does your computer have? HDMI, DVI are the minimum for some of the basic digital resolutions. USB-C and Displayport is required for some of the higher ones.

What are you going to be doing with your monitor? Monitors can be optimized for different things: accurate color and contrast (photo and video editing); refresh rate (for gaming); brightness and viewing angle (for documents)...

How good is your vision? Do you want a big screen with a ton of real estate to read tiny letters, or do you want a big screen with huge letters so that you can read better?

exec questions, my current one is from 2006, it is small, I would like one that is 30" or 32" , i will be doing a lot of typing, you tube , no gaming and basic offfice stuff. I needs to have front facing speakers (or at least speakers) , my vison is good with my script lenses on and i do not have any eye fatigue to much with this old one. I do have the font set on huge though. my current PC is about a year old and has 2 HDMI outputs, no USB C, intel core I3 , 10th gen processor ?

thanks, shawn

I'm a little confused. You have to buy your own monitor for work? You don't have an IT guy/dept. to request this from?

Anything 22-24 inches is good. I would suggest that two side by side is even better.

Here's a 32" in full HD in your price range. I've always liked Dell monitors. This one is curved, which is nice-ish. It's VA panel technology, so you get really good contrast and good response rates for the dollar. T

For double the money, you get an extra wide screen here, equivalent to about two 21" monitors side by side. This is an IPS technology panel, so you get wider viewing angles (meaning, you get good color even if you aren't sitting directly in front of the panel).

For the same as the above, this screen gives you a higher resolution.

Given your situation, I would probably go with the second monitor above. The resolution/pixel density is lower than the 3rd option, but that doesn't seem to be a concern for you as you said you wanted big text. The wide screen style monitor would allow you to have 3 pretty much full sized browser windows up side by side. Since you don't have two monitors, this single wide monitor would be an improvement.

If you wanted best picture quality, then the 3rd monitor would be your choice. You give up the utility of a double wide monitor, but increase the pixel density.

LG monitors are very good; Apple oftentimes sells LG displays alongside their Macpros as alternatives to their Cinema displays.

Do you mean tilt slightly forwards and backwards, which should be standard on all monitors? Or tilt a full 90 degrees to be a vertical portrait mode like a phone?

Doesn't have speakers. Does have Audio Out port for external speakers.

WRT speakers, I've found that the ones bundled with monitors are usually do not deliver particularly high quality audio. I'd consider a separate external speaker, either connected with an audio cable or perhaps Bluetooth. Quality Bluetooth speakers seem to give much higher sound quality than the typical PC speaker systems. I am very happy with my UE Booms that are great for listening to music (usually via a mobile phone or iPod) in arbitrary locations.

Erm...yeah. Onboard speakers for monitors suck, in general.

Even a $10 pair of speakers running off of the audio output would be an improvement, even if just because the speakers can be pointed at your face rather than firing out the back or bottom of a monitor.

Buy a monitor based on its performance as a monitor, ignore whether it has speakers. That can be resolved later.

Here, onsale at half it's usual price: $9 desktop speaker with nearly 50,000 positive reviews.
