SIGforum could have its own island - for cheap too! Big Grin

Gun laws? Who'd give a shit, we'd have the firepower to determine our own destiny. Seriously, why would Italy fuck with us over such a small piece of land? If they won it would be spun as a crime against immigration, if they lost it would be utterly embarrassing.

Now, we'll need a flag...

What are the gun laws there?

In a nutshell, anything but a 9mm.

For listed reasons, a 1-year renewable CWL. Not particularly onerous.

If it were me, I'd consider one of the towns offering the same deal on the mainland. Montieri in Tuscany looks interesting as well as the town in Abruzzo.

I like Abruzzo.

My wife told me last night that she liked the Sardinia idea.

Interesting.

If your going to retire there it makes sense. If your plan is to remodel the place and flip it in 5 years good luck. The market is crap there for them to offer homes at the low come to our town price. Could the market potentially rebound in the area with new people coming in yes, but it’s a gamble. Not only are they in need of new residents but also betting on those new residents creating businesses and improving the economy of the region and town.

Tempting. Very tempting. Darn, is that tempting!

Seems so on the surface. I wonder what they aren't telling us.

As someone once said, "There is no free lunch".

I'm betting something like this:

1) Renovations must be done by the only contractor approved by the town, who happens to be owned by the mayor's brother in law
2) The contractor is staffed by 500 of the mayor's friends, all named "Guido".
3) And repair estimates? "They're more like guidelines, anyway."

Just a hunch..... Wink

Everything that has been posted carries truth in it to a greater or lesser degree.

A decision like that to move away cannot be made lightly or hurriedly. But damn if it's attractive and clearly within the realm of possibility.

I find the conversation starter---"I live in Sardinia", compelling. What a way to break the ice! When was the last time you've heard somebody say that? Or, "I know someone that lives in the central part of Sardinia".

Things like that are enthralling to me. Like Puertoricans living in Tibet (not kidding). If it happens, and it may very well be, I'll be looking first for a renovated property.

Smile

Btw, Guido loves the idea.

Well if you buy it and pay the bond, even if you decide not to do anything with it, you're not out that much money. You could walk away for about $1500 LOLOLOL....

I have a great pic of my old man on Sardinia, dressed in civvies with bino's and Pentax 35mm, at the Straits of Bonifacio back in the 1970's watching Soviet ships go through.

Great memento, Sir.

It got me thinking that I don't have a photo of my father. Have a memory of one with him holding me up when a baby, at home.

I thank you for that.

Man, that's what I call "Rustic"

So, is there anything to keep someone from buying the entire island?

I mean, you guys could all stay at my place...

You'd have to be Donald Trump to do that. The island is pretty big, look at it on google maps!

I wonder what the annual taxes are, that's the BIG question. There are some expensive ocean front homes on Sardinia.
