Metal Detectors. Advice on what to buy... anyone here use one?

So SWMBO has decided that we will be getting a metal detector and taking it out on the weekends when we are four wheeling. Evidentially four wheeling isn’t good enough exercise and I have to now add metal detecting to the resume.

Anyways, I have been doing research on them, and there a so many different kinds to choose from. I want to get something good enough that it’s not just alerting us to every soda tab and brass casing in the desert. I also don’t want to drop $1k on something that I think she will grow tired of within a year or less.

I was thinking of a Fisher F22, then I see the F44 has ground balancing, then I see the F75 has a pinpointer. Now I have just escalated from $200 to $300 to $550...

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
