I bought a very well built and sturdy "R & D Enterprises" safe close to ~25 years ago and after (I would guess) at least several thousand cycles of unlocking / opening / re-locking the lock the mechanism became very unreliable.

I was able to open it one last time and transferred everything that was in it over to my larger safe.

A local and reputable safe store was informed by Simplex that although the chamber model was obsolete that they would be able to make one for me. After about six weeks of waiting Simplex just informed the store that it's a no-go. I am going to bring the chamber over to the store to see if they have a Simplex chamber that's 'close enough' that may work. They said that they will also call some other safe stores for me.

If I cannot get a replacement chamber I will need to buy a new safe for the bedroom.

The R & D safe is very similar to Fort Knox's Personal Pistol Box design / function but is a little larger and I would like to keep the same size (or larger).

V-Line Industries has some nice products but have limited options with front-opening safes with the capacity that I am looking for.

I came across Viking Safe in my research and their VS-35SX and the VS-50SX (this is the 'larger' option) models are very appealing to me.

The Viking appears to be well made, competitively priced and has good reviews on the web-sites that sell them.

Does anyone have any experience with Viking Safe?

Are there any other brands of safe with a Simplex lock mechanism in this general size range that I should also consider?

Thank you in advance!

Rob

Well, I came in to say Vline, but you’ve already looked at those. If you consider them anymore, I have two and they are great.

Knowing what one is talking about is widely admired but not strictly required here.

Although sometimes distracting, there is often a certain entertainment value to this easy standard.

When I saw the thread title, my mind immediately leapt to V-Line. I have been more than happy with their small handgun safes for quite a while now. I can understand wanting bigger, but maybe buy multiples instead? A quick look at their site show several closet-sized and in wall models that you might consider.

Thanks for the heads up, and I am aware of those threads as I probably have contributed to them to express my liking and endorsement for the Simplex Lock mechanism on a quick-access / reliable-to-quickly-open safe.

Before posting my thread I also ran a forum-wide search on the word “Viking” with the results returned in chronological order and I stopped paging through the results after about 18 or so pages which went back to a date era of 9/21/2017 with NO HITS related to “Viking Safe”.

So, back to what I am asking for assistance / advice on -

Do YOU have any experience with Viking Safe?

Can YOU recommend any other brands of safes with a Simplex lock mechanism in this general size range that I should also consider?
