Outside of Alliance, the infamous Carhenge exists. In Rushville, one of the top ranked pizza places in America exists, The Twisted Turtle. Sturgis and Mt. Rushmore are about 6hrs away from North Platte.

As I said earlier, if you want to explore Nebraska, plan on a long drive with at least one stop for gas in both directions. Going east to west, it takes about 8hrs to transverse the state. If you fall asleep for a few hours, you won’t miss much.

The tire came off the bead because for some reason tires that worked well in Fl sucked in Nebraska and I had no glove with me.

We camped at Lake McConaghey outside of North Platte on our way to WY this summer...very cool place. I've driven through NE numerous times on I80, and I'll admit that drive is kind of boring. But get off the highway and drive NE2 up to SD or 26 into WY, and its actually a pretty neat drive. Its long, but beautiful, especially in the sandhills, and there are plenty of little communities that look like they would be great places to live, full of people with good midwestern values far from the BS going on in other parts of the country.

There is talk about fracking in the area of late.

Grew up in Colorado. Been through Nebraska plenty of times. North Platte is just a tiny farming community in the middle of the flat nothing that is southern Nebraska. It smells like cow shit in the summer. The last time I was there, I stayed in a hotel and the smell of cow shit was so bad I didn't want to go outside.

Northern Nebraska around Chadron or Valentine is really pretty though. I've thought hard about moving there in the past.

I was there in 2002 on my way to Salt Lake City for the Olympics. It was crazy cold but I enjoyed the town.

There are a few things wrong with this post. “Tiny?” NP is 24,000 people; where do live, Los Angeles? It’s also more ranching than farming.

“Flat nothing?” North Platte, lies in the Platte River Valley. The interstate highway follows the river just like the Oregon and Mormon Trails followed it. The Platte forms a big river valley. Yeah, it’s flat. Nebraska is not. Oh, it’s not in the southern part of the state either; that would be south of the river and the interstate.

Sorry about the feedlots, they located south and west of town. A rancher once told me, “That’s the smell of money.”

I drove in Nebraska earlier this summer. Easily one hour outside of cellphone coverage in some parts of the state north of Mullen.

Folks lived in McCook for several years and then Kearney. Pals brewery is a nice place. We shoot skeet there once in a while. Nice people there.

I have flown in to North Platte several times on my may to Mullen. Great little airport, extremely nice people. Never get tired of the endless views of dunes. Lake McConaughy is a popular place in that area.
