Yes and no. The Hispanics who moved here have opened their own restaurants and speak English. I seldom hear a foreign language and the lack of diversity is striking. When my children were younger they asked why the couple at an adjoining table were speaking a foreign language. I heard foreign languages on a regular basis growing up in a large urban area.

You've not been to California in a few decades, have you? Many parts it is unusual to hear English.

That was my experience, though not Chicago.
Mom was an immigrant.
On Dad's side, my grandfather was an immigrant and my great-grandfather (my grandmother's father) was an immigrant.
Three "native" languages among them, and I speak precisely none of them, because from the time they got here: They spoke English. They wanted to be American. Their kids needed to speak English even better so they could get ahead.
I'm not that old. It wasn't that long ago. I don't get it.

I hate California! I liked San Francisco in the 1970s but it has turned into a shit hole. The Twin Cities sucks as well and Dearborn Michigan. Many parents are now sending their kids down South to college so they can avoid the Free Palestine Movement. California is losing residents to Texas for obvious reasons.

Just looking at my family and a few others I have known, while the immigrants were solid citizens who made every effort to be "American", they still had vestiges of attitudes or beliefs they grew up with. They all strove to learn the language and integrate with the community. But they've kept some socialist ideals or subtle prejudices. I don't think they really deeply held the founding principles of individual liberty and government BY the people. Most came from countries with a King or recently had a King (e.g. Britain, Hungary/Austria pre-WWI).

Someone who's escaped true tyranny or abject poverty might be quite different in that they have no affinity with what they got away from. None of the people I know personally were in that category.

Michelle Malkin was writing about the illegal alien invasion and the anti-American shit-bag politicians that enabled, encouraged, and profited from it years ago. . .

She has covered the thievery and destruction of our country by the ‘enemies within’ in other books.

I think she retired / took a break from journalism to ‘live her best life’ to raise a family.

I know it's not right to hate some people. But I fucking hate them (all those who stole money and broke the law). I immigrated here 35 years ago. Followed all the laws of the land. Worked 2 jobs for 9 years. Went back to school to get a better chance in living the American dream. Became a US citizen decades ago. NEVER even thought about dual citizenship. I don't believe in serving 2 masters. You can only be LOYAL to one entity. Paid more taxes than other people every year. I pay $440 every 2 weeks for my Medical Insurance for my family. and yet, a lot of these people come here in America as refugees. Suck up government assistance (that you and me pay for), and still complain about a lot of stuffs. They do not want to assimilate to the American way of life (most of them). I say anyone who are not US citizens, DO NOT have permanent resident status, deport them. But before we do, find the money they stole and confiscate them.

It is the same old DNC scouring the dump for people to fill their voting ranks as the black and latin votes are steadily leaving the DNC ranks. At least that is my take on this picture.
