konata88Surfer boots?
Went kayaking in the lake. I have something like this but I have problems with sand and gravel entering the shoe bed, especially in the water. I then have to sit down, rinse off my feet and the shoe and then put the shoe back on.
http://www.keenfootwear.com/p/...mens_footwear_sandalI saw someone wear what he called surfer shoes or surfer boots. I don't know what they were but they looked like wet suit material but thinner. And they wore like boots up around the ankle; I think they used some sort of strap to keep the shoes on.
Anyway, do you guys have any recommendations for a shoe / boot that I can use in rivers/lakes that won't allow sand to get inside?
Brand? Model? Shoe height? Ankle height?

xl_targetHere's something that does everything you asked for, except ...float.
Sorry, couldn't resist.

CaptainMikeNeoprene Dive booties. Come in lots of different heights and thicknesses. Example:

comet24Dive booties will work. They make them in different thickness(mm). 2-3mm is lightweight for warm weather. I have a few pair for diving. Some with thin sole for boat diving and a pair with sneaker like soles for walking over coral to get in the water.
Surf companies also make booties that will work.

konata88Thanks guys.
I'll look at o'neill and leisurepro.
I've got a pair of mare and cressi in the cart right now. LOTS of choices (too many). I'm guessing most are off brand made in china crap. But Cressi, Mare, and O'Neill seem like reputable brands.

IntrepidTravelerI have a pair of
NRS Remix Shoes. They are made for kayaking and rafting. A little pricey (more than Wally World water shoes), but they are durable and good build quality. I like them a lot.

We call those party boots down at the coastal fishing village. Not uncommon to spot folks wearing them in the local bar for an evening of live music after being on the boat all day.

ubelongoutsideThe trick I've found is to just wear your sandals loose. I thought it would bother me having them loose, but it really isn't as noticeable as you'd think. Even walking on dry land with them loose is no issue.
This way sand and gravel just wash in, and wash out. Worst case if something gets stuck just swish them back and forth in the water and they're clear.
I find the less straps to inhibit flow the better and like the basic Teva models.
