Anyone else in an absolute struggle with their local Post Office? Yesterday, they delivered 60 ounces of silver to a neighbor that was shipped with a signature confirmation from APMEX. I'm just lucky the employee of the business didn't know what it was, and was an honest person. She brought the 6 packages, one from APMEX with my silver, and said the postal worker had dropped all of them outside their door in the mall. So much for signature delivery...

We've had to start getting all of our mail at our business because the postal service will no longer deliver to our house. We live on a dead end road, and the postal drivers aren't allowed to back their vehicles, so no one gets mail on our street anymore.

I've run out of patience for the "overworked" "underpaid" postal workers. I hope the whole thing failed and dies. Complete incompetence, absolute waste of money, and a worthless organization.

USPS is the only company I'm aware of that raises prices and decreases service when business is bad.

I would really encourage you to use a common carrier like UPS for any kind of shipping or logistics needs. Pirateship (https://www.pirateship.com/) is a huge help with rates.

USPS is an quasi-government agency that has a mandatory mission and a governing body that won’t allow many of the cost-saving and efficiency measures that nearly everyone agrees should be implemented. They don’t receive appropriations to fulfill missions so they have to rely on partnerships with Amazon and commercial presort mailers to continue to exist, just to carry out passports, selective service registration, and a myriad of other unprofitable but vital services.

If it isn’t legal mail, presorted mailers, or a handoff from UPS to USPS for your small Amazon stuff, UPS can do nearly everything better.

USPS is on a steady decline. Between incompetent management and the unions, it needs to be banished from the face of the earth.

Yup. They suck here in NY too. Delivery confirmation is a common practice when the package still has not been delivered. Must be some on time measurement bs. Government run inefficient bullshit. How could anyone expect more?

I buy from APMEX and SD Bullion and they both ship us postal. I suppose I could pay through the nose and have it shipped fed ex. But then USPS should be able to actually do their job. It’s the worst. I work from home so it’s very rare that either my wife or I are both not home during the day. I have never had precious metals be signed for. Occasionally they will drop it off on the porch which is a good 50 yards from the street. Like UPS or fed ex. But almost always post office stuffs it my box on the street. I had 2 1911 done up at colts custom shop. Both were shipped adult signature required. Only 1 was. The other was just left on my porch. Thankfully it’s a quiet dead end street with honest neighbors.

When I go away I have my mail held. I've tried giving them a lot of notice, and little notice, no difference.

Went away two weeks ago, came home to mail in the mailbox. The time before that, same thing. The time before that, they held the mail, but kept delivering packages. Came home to soggy boxes on my front steps (the whole reason I had them hold the mail.)

Oh, man, don't get me started. I've never seen this kind of bullshit from the postal service. Last week, my wife wanted to send a friend a birthday card. I put it in the mailbox and put the flag up. Later, I go out to check the mail. The flag is still up, the card is still in the box, and so is the day's mail delivery! Lazy fucking assholes!! Mad

Fuckin' useless, these people are. Lazy and incompetent in equal measure. And that's just for starters. I'm not even going to get into it, because I'll get really riled, but in all the decades I've been getting mail, I've never seen this degree of laziness and incompetence from the USPS, and that is saying something.

What happened to Para is a common occurrence for me. I have the USPS email notification "service" that sends images of the mail that is to be delivered that day.
This then happens:
Email shows mail inbound. But box is empty.
No email notification. Mailbox is full.
There are days when the carrier (subcontractor) just doesnt show at all.
I ordered a fleece jacket. Was shipped in a poly bag. Which my carrier stuffed into the small mailbox to point I nearly destroyed the jacket getting it unstuck.
Other people often get my mail and I get theirs.
My Grandfather was a mail carrier for 35 years in Dayton. Same neighborhood he lived in. When he retired, people cried. Those days are over.

I don't know why this just popped into my head, but I think if the old SNL cast from the late 70's were to do a skit today about the Postal nonService it'd be hilarious.

Belushi as the Samurai customer, Dan Aykroyd as a postal carrier, Gilda Radner's Emily Latilla ranting about late and lost mail, Bill Murray as another mail carrier high-fiving Aykroyd the other carrier, and Chevy Chase playing another bumbling inept post office counter person. And of course Jane Curtain in there somewhere. And I think Gilbert Godfried as some obnoxious character somewhere in the cast.

Pure comedy gold if done right.

There is an area in the Apmex shopping cart to choose UPS ground or 2nd Day Air.
Ground UPS is $10. It is adult signature only.

This sounds like bullshit on the part of the Post Office. I wouldn't stand for it. Go to the Post Office some time and see how their vehicles are parked. Are they backed into their parking spaces, or do they have to back out of them? I know about the no backing up rule, but it only applies to driving in the street and it only concerns backing up unnecessarily. There is nothing that states they can't back out of a driveway. I think that is correct but I am going to look it up for sure. When I find it I will post it here.

Yeah, it's definitely getting worse. USPS misdelivered 3 packages to 3 different wrong locations a couple weeks ago. One went to a neighbor down the street, one went to a house a couple streets over, and one went to the middle of nowhere on a rural route.

I went down to the post office and had an in-person chat with the postmaster. They were able to track down and recover 2 of the 3 packages, and bring them to me that same day. Had to get a refund from the seller on the 3rd unrecovered package, which was the one that ended up being delivered out in the boonies.

Apparently they have a system that GPS tags each package at delivery, which they can use to go back and track down misdelivered packages. But you'd think they could program that same GPS system to pop up a warning stating "Wrong address, dumbass" when the postman tries to scan it as Delivered at an incorrect address.

During the upcoming Christmas season, I expect the USPS to crumble.

They can't deliver anything on time, to the right address now. What happens when they get deluged?

...so, I called over to speak to my local postmaster and her assistant ran interference for her. Y'know, we refer to people as "stupid" and even at this point in my life, it's startling to run into a genuinely stupid person. I tried to explain the matter. I wasn't angry, wasn't shouting, using profanity, nothing like that. I'm a Southern boy, so I do not speak quickly, but this genius of a woman told me "Whoa, hey, slow down, you're going much too fast!"

Much too fast? Just listen to what I'm telling you, please. She asked for my name and street address. I gave it to her. THAT was "too fast" for her as well. After I spelled my name and street name veeeery slowly for her, I tried to continue telling her of the difficulties I am experiencing with basic mail service, and out of the blue, this woman says "Sir, you do not pay my paycheck!"

I had to stop myself from calling her an idiot. Calmly, I said "Ma'am, you're defending yourself against a point I haven't even tried to make. I understand how the post office is structured." Before she could respond, I asked if there was anyone else available for me to speak with. She gave me a phone number and a name- a woman with a hyphenated last name. Fucking terrific.

I left two messages at that number- one message the same day, the next message, the next day. These messages were short and polite. No response. Roll Eyes

They have us over a barrel and they know it.

I've hard to start calling my postmaster from different numbers. They won't answer from my office phone or my personal cell phone. I called them from my on-call chaplain phone, they picked right up.

Pricks.
